You already get dozens of convertible gear from the coffers while trying to actually drop said items.

Because if you could add materia to the other sets of gear they would be overpowered. Just like the dream hat.

was this towards me, i said it should not be convertible?
Req
it hasnt been an issue with the sentinel gear, the chest gear drop rate is around 2 hours a piece average, and the stats arnt that great that it will throw the game out of wack. even if its meld-able a x2 meld could stil bet it. x2 melds on chest gear would be to risky to make an argument for.Because if you could add materia to the other sets of gear it would be too unbalanced in the favor of the chest gear. Just like the dream hat.
whats the point in having gear guarded by NM's with a 2 hour drop rate if its useless and you can buy a better piece for 20k pretty dumb to even put it in game then huh?

I think the point is not making Coffer gear superior to craftable double or tripled or whatever number melded gear, it is already easiest to craft xxx number of this part and try to have an impressive number of materia on it (it is just luck) than get a drop in stronghold (it is just luck)
I think the point is should all this Coffer piece be meldable, with player taking the risk to break them to obtain a really amazing item.
Beeing able to meld them make them more interesting to farm, give content a better interest and a longer life, and don't kill the crafter business. Coffer gear is basically superior to craftable gear but the pain to obtain one is way more superior too. It would be balanced to have them meldable, and all the meld thing beeing based onluck, you will still be able to craft really amazing gear as a crafter.
edit : please note that "i think" and we can exchange peacefully on the subject.

I agree it's an odd concept Sentinel isn't U/U but everything else is. Since the damage is already done, SE should remove the U/U on the rest of the stronghold gear so we can meld it.

I know internet sarcasm is hard to detect, but I was being sarcastic in my post. That is essentially the mentality SE has though. The U/U items would be too overpowered if you could add materia to them even though the effects would be minimal at best.Req

I made a pretty extensive topic like a month back on why I think they need to make the u/u gear materiable but these forums are very unfriendly towards people who want their gear to be the best it can possibly be and or want content worth doing.

Then Sentinel is the same is too overpowered like others... they have better stats and already some extras. Then why they are meldable and tradeable? That don't make sense.
Do you think if they were like the others U/U tanks would use it? Of course not, right? They cant add HP, VIT, DEF or Enmity is useless. Same happens with the others sets.

Bump. Would really like to hear a dev answer on this, wanna be able to meld sipahi gear ; ;

LET US MELD U/U GEAR I DON'T WANT TO BE WEARING A COBALT CUIRASS IN A YEAR THANKS 8)
What I mean to say is that if U/U gear is actually going to be good (worth 8 people's time) it needs to either completely outclass crafted gear or be meldable. I think that meldable is the best solution since it makes crafting still have some purpose (that is, making materia and starting gear sets).
Basically I think the best gear should come from like actual adventuring and not sitting in town hitting standard synth and then playing a slot machine (forbidden materia - not that you actually need it right now to completely invalidate almost every piece of U/U gear in the game. A single materia is enough)
I've seen the argument that they should just make unique effects for dropped gear. I agree that some dropped gear should have unique effects, but this isn't the solution to making it desirable over crafted/materia'd because
A) either the effects are so good that crafted/materia becomes worthless (which is fine but the materia system is kind of neat so I'd like to see it stay) or they're so crappy that the drops are still worthless
and B) itemization becomes more time-consuming for devs and confusing for players.
