But if we are not doing much different then before are we truly a WoD? Does that mean we are taking the side of Zodiark? What will we learn to make us do that? Maybe he has changed and wants to go against the Ascians too? (Since this is seemingly the expansion where we are dealing with them) Or will we simply believe a lie thus creating the next calamity thanks to that? So many questions and such a long time to have the answer. x) I just hope it makes sense because right now I am fully on TeamCrystalMum and dont want to really betray her.

A personal theory of mine is that Zodiark as of now is no longer our enemy, but due to his containment hasn't been able to stop the Ascians from doing what they do, which isn't helped by some of them also working towards goals that weren't exactly conductive to serving him even back before he was contained (IE things like Lahabrea all but saying he was gunning for personal power while talking to Elidibus). Regardless of who the voice speaking to us/the Scions is I think Zodiark has something to do with it, and his containment could very well be affecting it which caused the whole soul taking thing...possibly.

Some other posters have also talked about how it seems like Amano's artwork positions the WoD protecting the light...so ya know, we Assassin's Creed now. Working in the shadows to protect the light and all that.

Also how will that go with us reconstructing Ishgard or having the new ally system where we can take certain NPCs with us?

Ishgard rebuilding is probably something that starts happening in the 60s honestly, and even if it doesn't probably won't be affected as much by the Shadowbringer story. At most however the xpac ends will lead to Ishgard being able to free up resources to speed up infrastructure recovery. As for Trust, it depends on what NPCs will be available, which we don't currently know.

AS FOR the enemies that both the WoL/D and Thancred face in the trailer, a reminder that while Amdapor was not as aggressive as Mhach was in their war, White Magic did quite a bit of devastation as well. The elementals of Gridania were also kinda freaking out about the Amdapori constructs coming back online as well (thus the HM City fight). So "Light" has already been shown to be dangerous even if "Dark" has been a more constant threat.

Well, the Warriors of Darkness in 3.3-3.4 never stopped haying Hydaelyn's protection or favor either. That's why our crystals resonates with theirs and all the Warriors of Light/Darkness get to talk with her in 3.4. We were all working for Hydaelyn and she helps all of us out. The Warriors of Darkness were never interested in fighting her or us. They only did so because Elidibus told them that was the only way for them to preserve the aether of their Shard when the Flood of Light came. Hydaelyn then goes and says she can remove the Flood of Light from the equation completely and the Warriors of Darkness basically go back to being Warriors of Light at the end.

It's also rather interesting that the first people who call us the Warrior of the Light in 2.0 are the Ascians. And they link it with us having Hydaelyn's blessing. Given that the Warriors of Darkness never lose Hydaelyn's blessing either, I'm thinking that whether we use Light or Darkness doesn't matter all that much to Hydaelyn. Just weather we try to stop Calamities/Rejoinings... which the Ascians definetly want to happen.

The other thing to keep in mind is that no one, not Hydaeyn, not the Warriors of Light, not Zodiark, not the Asicans, wants a Flood to take place. Hydaeyn and the Warriors of Light don't want a Flood to happen because that erases/corrupts life (which Hydaelyn sees as her children). The Ascians don't want a Flood because that means they can't use the Flooded shard to bring about a Rejoining. However, Hydaelyn's way of bringing Balance to the Warriors of Darkness' shard is very different then how Elidibus wanted to bring about Balance to it. So I can see us working for Hydaelyn still while the Asicans work to bring about a Calamity still all while both of us are trying to bring about Balance by spreading Darkness. Just... different types of Darknes in different ways with different consequences.

Shoutout for the cinematics team for using the Archer outfit from 1.0 trailer. Not just that but his gear also being damaged, its a nice touch.

After watching the trailer again, I kinda wonder if maybe we will see a vision of the future or may be even sent there for a short amount of time in 4.5 and see the outcome of one possible future. Maybe we see what an outright battle with the empire will do and then we get attacked by the light monster and understand that we might need to change our ways but without helping the Ascians. Maybe this just means that we are going to find a way to balance the realm with our own power but still help out.

(Its also interesting that in the fight against Zenos the Light side of the moon is with the WoL but much smaller then the darker side which is with Zenos. Maybe this is just for video and has no meaning or maybe its a hint.)

It would make more sense to me that we just see the possible future and then try to avoid it for the rest of the expansion while dealing with the empire and the Ascians. (Seemingly we are still going to take both of them down?) This way they wont need to change any of the zones and rebuilding a city state would make sense too. And this would pace the expansion a bit better imo because if we first have to play through the part where things go wrong and then change it we have much less time left to deal with the rest and we do need still quite some bit to even get to Garlemald, to introduce all the people there and to have a reason to travel to the new zones.

But if we truly deal with Garlemald and the Ascians..what is left for future expansions?

There are continents beyond Aldenard, Ilsabard, and Othard. Meracydia, and the New World. (And we've barely scratched Othard and not even touched Ilsabard...)
