I have the maximum pre loaded frames set to 3 which was default. Do you suggest I change it? As far as your last question yeah there is a lot of stuttering when characters load in Uldah for about 4 seconds and then it goes away. I dont quite notice it on the road. I did get it to 5GHZ :P the minute I started to run prime95 my cores jumped up to about 90 instantly, which makes me think that I need to re apply my paste cause I do have a really good cooler and it should be a bit cooler at that point I think. However it might have to wait for me to move it into the basement because my ambient temperature is really high. At 4.8 things hover at about 80 under 100% load, but then again how often am I under 100% load... almost never. I never really break 30% during regular use for the most part I dont think. I could test some stuff for you when game comes back up because I would like to learn more about those features you mentioned.
I wouldn't expect to get temperatures under 80c while overclocking to 4.8ghz with the heatsink you are using (even though it is a good one.) I've come to a belief that the only way someone can overclock the i7 cpus at such high levels under 75c is to go with a water cooling system. Air just can't keep up.

    This is my set up:
    Intel i7 930 cpu
    ASUS p6x58d premium motherboard
EVGA gtx 480 1536MG video card
    Corsair Dominator DDR3 6GB (3x2g) ram
Antec TruePower 750 watt power supply
    Antec 900 case
Corsair Hydro Series H50 CPU cooler
Western Digital Black SATA 1TB hard drive
    Asus CD/DVD optical drive
    Windows 7 Home Edition

I had my CPU overclocked to 4.0ghz and was getting ~81c on all cores on prime95. I also felt that I would never get those temperatures on any real programs, but after a few months of using my computer I ended up reaching mid 80s on BF2 Badcompany. This is largely due to living in southern AZ where it is starting to heat up and I have no ac. Still, for protection I stopped overclocking and I think I will maybe put it back to around 3.6-3.8.

In game, I can run with maxed settings at around 22fps I think. But if I lower the AA to 8x I think I'm getting around 30fps. I could probably take one more setting down and run the game really smoothly, but I like looking at the crisp textures.

Once the gtx 480 drops in price I may add another one with SLI and get a 1000 watt ps. Though I'm a little uncomfortable about being so energy greedy.

No monitor yet so I have to use my home theather tv which is 52" sony bravia xbr9 (probably bad idea)
    Crap keyboard and mouse

Like others above me I get good score in WIE but my hdd drags it down to 5.9. The game seems to run fine but I am too familar going about setting on vid card (need help w/ that). I also get the occasional stutter that I see some also experience, idk if it's my crappy hdd or what. But I seem to run @ a solid 60fps most times. I have also experienced the famous directX device not available error and still haven't found a solid answer to this issue, haven't gotten it from any other game before.

Thnx to the OP for this thread I am glad to see what other people are running for XIV pros and cons to help make everyone else have an easier time running this game with your solutions and equipment. Now if I can only find something on making decent videos.

This actually opens a far more reaching topic...all this PC power for flawless play when a simple PS3 for $399 will do exactly the same thing in months to come. Something to think about really, play on PS3 on a 55" HDTV on the couch or play on a $3000 PC? Weird huh that the Cell is still better than what PC can do?

Comparing computers is pretty much mute...its a Console designed game...once PS3 release PC users will have to have massive power to keep up...its NOT a PC game and never will be

I definitely agree with this, at least in regards to FFXIV. The game would never look at good on a ps3 compared to a PC, if both used a 1080p monitor/tv. But for the cost, it makes much more sense for someone to use a PS3 if they are wanting to play this game. But console gaming will never have the power or custom aspect as a PC will have.

that's funny since se itself has said the game was going to have to lower the resolution to have the ps3 run the game properly since it cannot handle the high resolution or the directx system it runs on now. that is neither here nor there though since most of us have computers for other reasons. i know i built mine around 2-3 years ago which was way before the release of the game. the ps3 will be a nice option form many people, but it will not be able to compete with the high end gaming systems on max resolutions.

    @Mhati

Ah, that is only for the sole-purpose of playing one game. Everyone needs a p.c. in their life one way or another, be considerate that people do use their p.c. for other means than just one thing just because they post within a game forum.
