Thomson TO8.... with an external 3.5 floppy drive, a must back then! shit I grew a few more grey hair writing this. :/
Playing on a computer built in 2006, E6400 with 4GB of DDr2 and a HD5750. game runs fine, good enough for me. First time I keep a computer this long. Core2duo cpu = total win I guess.

I've got a cabient full of 386sx,486 and pentium motherboards, along with plenty of vintage video and sound cards. Even have a quad 486 compaq machine as an endtable! Just can't part with the stuff
I use my gaming machine I mentioned for ffXI also, so if I do upgrade I'll probably try to stuff a radeon X1950XT into it alongside a GTX560, and dual boot with XP using the radeon and w7 using the GTX (I'm not sure how well that will work, since my current board only has one pcie-x16 slot). After lots of testing with FFXI, I found that the x1950 with 2007 drivers has superior image quality and no strange slowdown issues compared to newer radeons, and all geforce cards. XIV won't even start with an x1k series card though
That latest nvidia driver really helped with the low framerates, but the image quality is still terrible.
Wow the new 400 and 500 series Nvidia cards sucked that bad for FFXI? Have you tried to use the launcher or mess with the registry settings to make it look better?I've got a cabient full of 386sx,486 and pentium motherboards, along with plenty of vintage video and sound cards. 4gb RAM (gonna upgrade to 8gb soon)
Raedeon HD5450 1gb (gonna spend 140ish$ soon for a much better performing card)
AMD Athlon II x2 255 3.10ghz (it gets the job done lol)
Windows 7 ( i hate translucent screens....)
1TB HD
Runs ff14 just fine medium/high settings... lol 320$ new closeout sale from cyber power.com, could easily spend 200$ to get good high settings running but im a cheapass
on a side note the motherboard is a rather suck one only 2 RAM expansion slots and max 8GB RAM capacity but thats more than enough.
Now if my COMCASTcraptastic internet service wouldnt flop from 100MBsec to 1-5 on a weekly basis id be happy.

Awesome deal ^^ Cyberpower makes good stuff I was told. Yeah I think you only need more ram if you doing video editing and stuff like that. For gaming 4 is more than enough atm I think. Thanks for the post Hiko ^^
We dont have Comcast here, but Bell is sticking it to me good atm with this P2P throttling. /cry

correct, my maximum usage for ram is only 3 point somethingAwesome deal ^^ Cyberpower makes good stuff I was told. Yeah I think you only need more ram if you doing video editing and stuff like that. For gaming 4 is more than enough atm I think. Thanks for the post Hiko ^^

@ Point_Zero, There were days where I was curious about how hot my v.card gets when running FFXIV, so multiple times I touched the fins and I was surprised to know that it actually works my video card (its usually cold), it was slightly hotter than what we consider warm but not to the point it burns, FFXIV is definitely a beast to run. I was thinking about those higher-end cooling technology, like liquid-cooling but I decided that it takes up too much space and makes too much noise = hassle.
and thank you for your compliment, it does feel good to get a compliment after all the effort we put in to our rig.

Like others above me I get good score in WIE but my hdd drags it down to 5.9. The game seems to run fine but I am too familar going about setting on vid card (need help w/ that). I also get the occasional stutter that I see some also experience, idk if it's my crappy hdd or what. But I seem to run @ a solid 60fps most times. I have also experienced the famous directX device not available error and still haven't found a solid answer to this issue, haven't gotten it from any other game before.
Thnx to the OP for this thread I am glad to see what other people are running for XIV pros and cons to help make everyone else have an easier time running this game with your solutions and equipment. Now if I can only find something on making decent videos.
