You know what, SE must have made some fixes to the 8x AA, as I have changed my settings to this since others have said it works better and they are right. I actually get better quality, less CPU usage and more FPS.

To those who can use AA, try 8x it uses less CPU/GPU than the 2x setting I had. (I rarely go above 15% CPU usage now - i7-980x @4ghz)

I'm so happy to notice that optimizations of video are being tweaked even though they dont mention it. In alpha, beta or open beta, or even first few months of release, 8x AA would have made my system run @ 20 FPS. Keep up the good work and lets get some content in the game, more things to do

Also upgrade your video card drivers to the latest as that has helped also.

(If i didn't list something it's because I currently don't remember nor have access to the information.)
    PC Specs:
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 @ 2.81 GHz
    Memory: OCZ Reaper 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (or maybe 1200)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB VRAM
GPU Driver: 260.99 (would 266.58 be better?)
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    FFXIV Settings:
    Display Mode: Windowed
    Window Size: 1680 x 1050
    Multisampling: No AA
    General Drawing Quality: 8 (Standard)
    Background Drawing Quality: 3 (Standard)
    Shadow Detail: Lowest
    Ambient Occlusion: Off
    Depth of Field: Off
    Disable cutscene effects: Off
    Hardware Mouse: On
    Texture Quality: High
    Texture Filtering: Highest

FPS: 10-60 (25 on average) really jumpy. Gridania lags the most.
In general the game is all-round jittery and appears to skip a bit each time I move the camera or character. I can't seem to find a happy medium between the settings and my hardware. I thought the GTX 460 would solve all problems but wow...SE really has some issues here with their game!

I need advice on this, I'll be trying all types of random settings all night but what do you advise I set for my system?

Also more importantly, what do you guys think of my CPU? I feel it's causing my the problems in terms of lag. I should think the GTX 460 can handle the game at least decently. Right?

    PC specs:
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (running 5 cores @ 3.2Ghz)
    Memory: 8GB (4x2048MB) DDR3 12800.
GPU: 2x ATI HD Radeon 5870 (in Crossfire configuration)
    GPU driver: 8.751.0.0
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

    FFXIV settings:
    Display Mode: Fullscreen
    Resolution: 1920x1200
    Multisampling: 4x MSAA
    General Drawing Quality: 8 (Standard)
    Background Drawing Quality: 5 (High)

    Depth of Field: Off
    Disable cutscene effects: Off

    Texture Quality: High

    FPS: 29-ish, fairly consistent.

Sometimes I observe screen tearing (per the 29-ish fps). What's odd about it is that I notice multiple lines of tearing all grouped together, as if multiple frames completed in quick succession, followed by a long frame. I'm not certain if this is a side-effect from using Crossfire, as my understanding is that Crossfire will alternate rendering between the two cards, "doubling" framerate. (My understanding is that NVidia's SLI works differently by using both graphics cards to render every frame.)

Ambient Occlusion absolutely tanks my framerate, however, as it will drop me to somewhere in the 15-20fps range.

I didn't notice any visual difference resulting from enabling and disabling Depth of Field, but it seemed like enabling it made screen tearing more frequent.

8xQ MSAA seems to cost me a few fps, dropping me into somewhere around 25fps.

I haven't tried adjusting drawing qualities, shadows, or texture options. I'd be more inclined to tweak my graphics settings for optimal performance, but I don't like having to constantly log in and out and use the external configuration tool. Having to do so also makes it difficult to determine minute changes in performance.

Overall, I would say I'm "satisfied" with graphics performance and the look of the game, with the caveat that I haven't yet tried to walk around in a heavily populated area (I'm in Gridania on Rabanastre server, and the area doesn't seem to be highly populated).
