This game doesn't have the tech to animate separate parts of the body independently, like so many games have managed. You see it when performing any attack while moving; the character just slides around.
If you could move while maintaining a several-second long ability, it would look completely ridiculous. Frankly, we're pretty lucky most abilities don't lock the player down.
The problem is that a long ability like that even exists. Especially with how hilariously weak it is. People only use it to force overheat, so it may as well just be a quick burst attack which overheats instantly.

Bruh. That's not a bad idea

    Flamethrower

Deals damage to all enemies before you with a potency of 300 for the first enemy, 10% less for the second, 20% less for the third, 30% less for the fourth, 40% less for the fifth, and 50% less for all remaining enemies

Gauss Barrel Effect: Heat Gauge instantly increases to 100 causing your weapon to become Overheated. Heat Gauge not affected when used outside battle.

(I only added the reduction part since it seems like something SE would do anyways)

Redundant effect. You'll aim for a manual overheat with shots so you can punt 300 potency into Wildfire with Flamenwerfer.

    Elaborating -

As an example (I'm sure there are better optimized ones), you currently aim for 75 or 80 heat. 80 gives you six siq nasty overheat shots, while 75 is just easier to line up the wildfire (One GCD to trigger from 95, then 5 OH / Wildfire)

So if Flamenwerfer did appreciable damage, you instead aim to be at 95 naturally when Flamenwerfer is ready, so you manual overheat with a shot, throw on Wildfire, and Flamenwerfer is now discount Richochet.

Perhaps, but you wouldn't wait to manually build 100 heat in your opener, so it'd be used the same for that I think. It then adds some flexibility to the skill, you could choose to squeeze it into mid-fight Wildfires or use it as instant Overheat as the fight dictates.

Maaaaaaaaaybe, but at that point you might as well attach the instant overheat onto Wildfire.

Another option for Flamethrower could be to make it do more damage the longer you use it, so it would be a valid AoE skill outside of overheat and just give us PvPs Stun Gun (overheat on press).

Meanwhile in Heavensward and in ARR we had the BRD bug with Rain of Death and Wide Volley where your legs would flip around and your upper body would stay up if you pressed both at the same time.

We also still have Reload and Quick Reload which work in other animations.

I feel like they had the ability to make skills animate with other animations, it's just that they choose not to or just didn't think this through, just like Gauss Barrel and Cooldown.

Wait... Ugh, I can't believe that is the actual reason.

    It's not.

There are plenty of animations that play while moving to no detriment.

However, it is more work to create animations that change on the player's input, such as moving. It looks goofy, but no more goofy than moving and attacking in most other RPGs without animation locks.

What they've done is improve on the new animations so that doing them during movement is less jarring.
