    I can't be as optimistic as you're.

Maybe us WHM will be buffed, but that won't change the fact that S-E loves SCH and S-E have fun fine tunning AST. At 5.4 we'll benched again. And when a new healer appears (Dancer, Geomancer, Green Mage, Beastmaster, whatever), we'll be benched even more. S-E will happily fine tune that new class, will buff AST, buff SCH and forget we even exist to the point we'll even be locked out of PF. The utilities we yet have will be given to other healers or just taken away and we will receive none. And lillies will remain the same.

Sorry for that exageration, but is how I feel about WHM's future. And that's why I'm testing SCH and AST.

Preaching to the choir, friend. That's why I'm a RDM now. When I joined my current static the WHM offered to go SMN so I could keep healing and I decided this was still preferable.

I don't blame you, SE really doesn't seem to care about WHM. Probably because despite how behind it is in raids, it's still one of the more popular jobs for the aesthetic alone. It's so damn unfortunate, but until WHM hits AST player numbers, not much will probably change.

I've been playing SCH more lately, it feels so much more solid and efficient.

Honestly, after you reach a certain skill level as a healer, I don't see how you won't grow bored of playing WHM. It's so basic as a job, and both AST and SCH are way more dynamic, give you more interesting and diverse tools to play with and prove how good you can be as a player. I mean, I understand that there are people that like simple jobs so they can focus more on mechanics, but thankfully we can freely switch jobs whenever we want and healers all share the same gear. Just try other healers and show SE that WHM needs some attention. Right now, WHM is the most played healer. This probably makes the devs believe that it's actually in a great spot and that a lot of healers prefer using a blatantly underpowered job if it's easier.

What I wanted to say is, please do try SCH and AST. You will probably like them more than WHM.

I'm not sure what content you're looking at but for quite some time now SCH has been the most played healer in Savage which is what things get balanced around. WHY may be more used in expert roulette or whatever (as it should) but that's not to say that that should have literally any impact on balancing.

As far as liking AST or SCH more I was a SCH main in HW who swapped to WHM for SB and mained it up until the end of Sigma. I can say AST is less painful to play with the Malefic cast time reduction but I still don't enjoy playing it. AST is so reliant on the party doing basic things to stay alive (stand in the star) or maximize dps (... don't suck if you get cards I guess?) that with pugs it's so painful to play. SCH is fun I suppose but also doesn't feel as carry-friendly as WHM as once you burn aetherflow and dissipation you're basically level 50 again. WHM has the throughput to drag even the baddest bads through things and that's an enjoyable trait in today's DF.

According to fflogs, whm is more utilized than ast in alphascape except for o12s. I suppose that's because most competent statics prefer AST as they recognize that in organized parties it is a far superior choice, both from a healing and a dps point of view. Casual statics are ok with a whm because at their level, optimized play and job balance really doesn't matter anymore. I still interpret those numbers as whm being a preferred choice for less skilled parties not really because whm is "safer", but because a ast/sch combo requires 2 skilled and coordinated healers to achieve great results (correct use of earthly star, regens, indo and so on, and unfortunately many healers are not able to achieve a good level of coordination), whereas whm can be effective even in the hands of a relatively unskilled healer because of its straightforward toolkit and even when the cohealer is not paying attention (like sch wasting indo when the whm is casting cure 3...I've seen this so many times in pf). I guess what I want to say is, whm is not a better healer. It's just far easier to use effectively because its tools are more straightforward. AST has a much higher skill ceiling, but after the ceiling is reached it can do amazing things.

Why are you sorry for evaluating the situation as it is? No reason for that.
