I was expecting exactly what it was. Garbage.
I was expecting exactly what it was. Garbage.
I expected something like WoWs Timeless Isle although I did hope it would be better. However that doesn't really help anyone who didn't play it, so in detail I expected Eureka to have:
- an engaging story not a series of fetch quests with a thin reason for doing them tacked on
- Solo and limited-time friendly options
- Daily quests
- Rep grinds
- Hidden areas/treasures that rewarded exploring
- Gathering and possibly crafting options
- Level synch
- Difficulty increasing as you progress (the absolute opposite of what we got)
- Notorious Monsters
- Mob grinding
Out of all of that, we got NMs and mob grinding, along with disincentives to explore in the form of the XP penalty and locked Aetherytes.
What bothers me most is this content seems to have been made with absolutely no thought given to longevity and no purpose beyond this expansion's relic. Timeless Isle had catch-up gear, rep grinds, toys and mounts that kept it relevant.
.
Like others said I expected a mix of solo and group play like they promised.
Not silly drop rates for cosmetic items and not silly complex spawn triggers for no reason.
I also expected boss fights with more mechanics and not overgrown mobs that can be killed in few seconds before others are able to reach them.
Those bosses should scale and have more mechanics. Like open world dungeon bosses.
I really wanted more open world boss fights and less endless trash mob grind.
I was excpecting ZICO and Zion.T but meh
When they said it would have a new map, I expected quests, dailies..., anything but mindless grind.
Yeah, yeah, I know relics are grindy, but until SB we had variety on the steps. Anemos wasn't fun (something they preach is important) and they did double down on that with Pagos.
This is honestly the most tragic part of the whole thing. Maybe the devs learned from their mistakes, and because of that Pyros will truly shine. But who cares? Massive swaths of the game's population will never experience it because you've gotta go through the hell that is Pagos first. I know I'm not gonna do it. Pyros is already dead as far as I'm concerned, and it's not even out yet.
Anyway, I expected to feel like we were out on an expedition on the frontier, slowly making a foothold on the hostile island of Eureka. Something vaguely Tomb Raider-esque. Exploring ancient ruins, finding treasure, fending off hostile creatures, something for DoLs and DoHs too. Maybe something similar to the Doman Enclave Reconstruction while we strengthen our little outpost on the coast. Instead we got... literally nothing. I'm honestly baffled by the entire concept of Eureka. I have no idea where all the dev time went, because both Anemos and Pagos are basically empty. All you've got are hunt marks branded as FATEs and basic mob grinding. How did something like this get past testing? You only need to spend thirty minutes inside Eureka to realize that something crucial is missing from the experience.
If you're interested in the content itself and don't really care about the relic weapon, I suggest you do the challenge log every week. It's easy and gives tons of exp, so at least you can easily and quickly reach level 35 without even setting foot in pagos and in case pyros is good you can also try it. Of course if the relic weapon is your main driver there's no point doing that. This is honestly the most tragic part of the whole thing. And this is what I was thinking too. Pyros could be amazing, but no one will be there because there's so few people who have put up with Pagos to be able to get there. I have enough stuff for one weapon and I haven't used it yet because I don't know what to get and I'm secretly hoping for a nerf with Pyros is released.
lol looks like someone already commented that. Dante described the 9th circle of hell to be frozen over because it's the furthest place from god, so I'm hoping for some devine intervention with pyros.

This is why I'm of the mind the devs need to swallow their pride and let us either bypass Pagos entirely or nerf it into the ground come Pyros' release. Some potential ways to accomplish that are as followed:This is honestly the most tragic part of the whole thing. - Allow Pyros tokens to be converted into Pagos/Anemos ones
- Either have no level increase or a marginal one (no higher than five or thereabouts.) Therefore, enemies in the 30-35 will be present, allowing people to farm light in Pyros
- Severely lower the requirements for Pagos
Normally, I wouldn't advocate for us an extensive nerf, however if they want Pyros to have a fighting chance. This is the only way to do it. Hopefully, they learn never to gate content like this. After all, there's a good reason games have largely stopped doing that.
Yeah, at the very least I hope we're able to grind out Elemental weapons in Pyros. I'm fine with grinding. Truly. Just not in Pagos. This is why I'm of the mind the devs need to swallow their pride and let us either bypass Pagos entirely or nerf it into the ground come Pyros' release.
