Sometimes it catches me off guard if my volume is higher, but it's usually compounded by the million other sounds blaring out of my monitor. Other than that it's background noise. Had a couple friends who noticed it right away though back at the beginning of SB and didn't care for it.

I don't think any of the battle sounds have ever bothered me, but character voices (in battle) have, especially my own. Everything will be going fine until there's a moment of quiet and I keep hearing these annoying character sounds...then realize they're coming from my own character. I don't know how many times i have asked people if they can hear my character and if it was annoying to them.

Yeah sometimes depending on your speaker set up or camera angle you'll hear some things but not others. The battle voices are one thing I wish we could try out when doing character customization. Because you can pick a voice you like for the ones they give you and then you go and fight something and then you cringe and go well crap.

I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who needs ear plugs when they're on sam. It's normally fine when it's someone else doing it as it does get dulled out or I'm on my main and not near the action, but when it's me oh man.

It's too high pitched. I agree it's pretty bad. I especially hate it when I get into trial roulette with multiple samurai (especially if it's level synced so you can't convert your sen into kenki)

There are many people susceptible to high-pitched sounds. Then there are certain sound types that are particularly nasty. Think about scratching a plate with a fork or a blackboard with nails.

High-pitched sounds cause a certain range of vibrations that can cause damage, hence why people are particularly likely to be susceptible to them. I mean, we're talking about something that can potentially break glass. Humans (eardrums specifically) are far more suited to low-pitched sounds. That's why drums are so popular.

So yes. It is a thing, and not because someone may be "weird". It is a thing for very much medical reasons.

Yeah, I for one, cannot stand the noise materia makes it fails to meld (which makes the noise of an explosion). Those players that hang out by the marketboards in the cities trying to overmeld is the reason I do my shopping outside my house in Shirogane.
