The original shows one player making moves that are incoherent within the framework of tic-tac-toe, such as drawing a single square in four spaces. Video games, by their very nature, are too rigid to allow a similarly incoherent move to be made. The best you could do is not participate or try to deliberately wipe your group, and it's incredibly unlikely you'll find any substantial number of people who would disagree with a kick in such a situation. However, the appropriateness of the response of the player who originally suggested tic-tac-toe is contingent on the degree of deviation by the other player's actions, which cannot be matched in FFXIV. Instead, what people are complaining about is a combination of 1) failure to carry out intended action or 2) suboptimal intended action. Instances of #2, even when still adequate to clear the content, are generally not exempted from this complaining. This makes it clear that it really is about optimization and a failure to adhere to whatever arbitrary standard the complaining player tries to impose as they try to play the duty police, as it seems that many players think the only reason anyone should play this game is to make an active effort to not just be good enough for the content they're interested in, but to be as good as possible, and they consider any other motivations or ambitions for the game to be invalid.

After all, "it's only a game." People have no right to be annoyed a basic mechanic that everyone should be aware of by level 70 just wiped the entire group. A less obvious example would be the DPS yelling at the tank for aggro issues yet when asked if they used Diversion, they respond with "You're a tank! I shouldn't have to!!" This is essentially telling the tank "cater to me because I can't be bothered to press a button which impacts my rotation in no way whatsoever."

So no, it isn't I who needs further clarification...

1. If it's there first time tanking, healing, or DPSing in a dungeon? Fine. Day 1-3 of new content? Fine. After the third day though, it's a little tiring of hearing the same excuse of "I'm new!"

2. No, this isn't a good excuse. It's not thing to accidentally forget to place something on your hotbar as I've done that beforehand, but it's another to queue up for normal or harder content and then decide that you want to change your UI while you wait. If you're changing your UI in a way that is going to become detrimental towards how you play because you've messed up your finger's muscle memory, then you should iron out the kinks and practice it first outside of content that would require other people's time.

3. Never a good excuse. You don't go to work and lash out at people because you have problems at home, or go home and lash out at people because you had a bad day at work either. If you're sick, you should be resting in bed and not trying to focus on XIV. If you had a bad day, it's fine to vent, but that doesn't mean you get to be an asshole about it either.

Sorry Nixxe, but your picture is even more of a strawman than the original. You seem to be saying it's alright to play sub-optimally if content is still cleared, but this neglects the fact that others have to pick up the slack that the sub-optimal player is creating. Nevermind the fact that a lot of mechanics in this game, when stuffed up, can have snowballing effects, especially if they kill someone. It's a lot of unnecessary stress on other players to play in a way that doesn't have cohesion with the team.

I get what she means about a bad day. She said it wrong.. I had prently where I'm ready and jumping into content.. but shit just fucks up. You make a few mistakes and it's random.. you don't know why.. you panic and a wipe happens. Last time that happened to me tho I flat out told the group I was sorry and left the dungeon on my own. I just wasn't having a good day to heal. I wasn't sick, and I heal content decently enough normally.. it was just a bad day. So I get THAT point. But on the other ones... Look I understand when you feel you're not up to task. And people get on your case about it. I SUCK at this game. Go look at my logs.. they are shit. But instead of asking for people to baby me. I train, I look up stuff, I train MORE. You're never going to get better unless you TRY. Noone is going to hold your hand and hug you telling you it's ok. They are going to be pissed if you slow them down.. and yeah that sucks. but what're you going to do? Keep hplding people back, then your pain will NEVER end. Get out there and show people you're good by training and getting better. You'll always run into assholes but trust me... as someone who freaking SUCKS.. you can get better.
