Aether tanked. Everyone felt the pain of the boot. Your mileage may vary getting back on.
Getting some pretty painful lag on Diabolos (primal datacenter) now. Enough that I had to log because it was too annoying just trying to send my retainers on ventures. I had just finished my Namazu beast tribe dailies when it set in. Good lord.
Edit: I would also like to point out that the Lodestone is semi hard to load now. Forums are fine...for the moment.

According to the lodestone the ddos attacks are only affecting EU datacenters.
So for the people on NA data centers that have been having these issues for the past few days, that is a reasonable request.
In my 12 years of playing WoW I've had multiple times extra 'free' days added to my sub due servers being wonkey.
I'de love to see that here too.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Ddos attacks are a lie though. Online service providing companies use the Ddos lie all the time when they have network issues.

DDoS attacks are super hard to mitigate whenever it comes to video game environments. They don't have the same capability as a CDN does (your Netflix, Amazon, Cloudflare, Akamai). So they suffer a bit harder than other groups. And as Enkidou said, terms of service cover them in this capacity. They can't prevent acts of god or people from doing bad things. Even so, I do not care for NTT. Their infrastructure is terrible in San Jose.
I realize that this might be hard to grasp, but....
No one can predict nor completely stop DDoS attacks from happening from any smuck that knows what they're doing. DDoS attacks happen to other businesses all of the time as well like Google and Amazon, you just don't hear it about it as often. I remember one year when the entire PSN was down around Christmas time.
