Don't forget about them reducing the size of the game itself by nearly half.

With this streamlining of data regions, a reduction in required HDD storage space is expected for the current PS4® version of FFXIV. (What is 67.25 GB as of Aug. 2018 is expected to be reduced to about 34 GB.)
As a side, had no problem getting on at 5am when servers went up. The patch was already downloaded and installed, all I had to do was log in and click play. Sounds like a "you" problem.

For the record, I have nothing against the old system. I didn't realize at first this was going to be a mandatory transition, it sounded like it would just be an option if people wanted it, so I had no intention of switching over. But since it all happened automatically, eh, I'll take the extra HDD space since you can seemingly never have enough anyways. Otherwise didn't seem to cause any issues for anyone else I know on PS4. (everybody else was ready to play at the same time I was, so? Sorry you should've just been more prepared.)

You might want to try this one:

    https://www.psu.com/news/how-and-why...ase-regularly/

This also defragments the hard-drive, so the next update should have an easier time to find some space to install it.

Since my Internet speed caps at 0.3mb/s, with the average speed of around 0.14, patches taking hours is the norm for me T-T 20mins is fast in my books :P

When major patches or expacs drop it only gets worse. Im a day 1 raider, 4.4 took 2 hours total and was not ready in time for me to log at servers going up despite the actual download taking 15 mins tops.

I attributed this at the time to it being the first patch of its type, clearly it isnt.

Its not SEs fault that PS4s own patch/update system is trash but we had a different and arguably better system before.
4.4 was available like 10 minutes after the servers went down for maintenance, which we were told would happen in the downtime announcement where it suggested downloading in rest mode or leaving your console on overnight or whatever. I had the game patched like 18 hours before the servers came up, you're either exaggerating or something. I've personally had 0 issues with the new system and think the minority is blowing it completely out of proportion, it's still in the teething stages for crying out loud.

The new update method, updating trough PSN itself is much better then trough the launcher. Via this way your PS4 can also update while it's in sleep mode.

I have found it to be pretty decent, not as fast as my desktop of course but still relatively fast (much faster then the old updater). I had some issues with a certain online game in the past an I changed some settings in my router some port forwarding s and also changing my PS4 from nat 2 to nat 1 and since then I've noticed a 'speed increase' in everything internet related (like browing the PSN store would go faster and such).
I should also add that I have a PS4 pro with an SSD so the copying files might be faster then on a regular PS4 or when using traditional HDD's.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Yea that's what I was talking about, (the most annoying issue), but this is a problem with all PS4 games not just FFXIV.

Probably not correct but can't be too far off:

    68 GB original install file
    34 GB new install file
34 GB "copy" of new install file.

You wouldn't have enough space. Out of curiosity, how much space do you have now?

i got rid of ffXV for the moment that game was about 100 GB by itself due to all the DLC, it says i got about 200 GB free space left :/ its kinda dumb makes the 1TB HDD feel incredibly small, if i went for say RD2 i'd need over 200 GB to install that by the weird logic for a 100 gb game.

The old patch method I could wake up an hour before servers went live and even on major patches be done and ready for when servers go live in 10 to 15 minutes.

The "new" system takes significantly longer and requires you to make sure youre patching earlier to guarentee itl'l be done in time.

I say "new" because its not new, there is no teething stage. This is how all ps4 games patch and the whole backing up, preparing, copying stage has recieved many complaints over the PS4s lifespan.

It was nice that ffxiv didnt patch like this previously and if I had to last minute patch I could.

The fact is wether its work out for you or not, patching times have increased due to the way the PS4 itself handles updates/patches for all games.
