PS4 update time has become ridiculous

Yeah, download was done in less than a minute and then the 'copying files' started. I have no games running at all and it still looks like this is going to take 15 -20 mins to complete. I'm shocked at how long this is taking. Is this really 'working as intended?'

Like others, I cannot imagine how bad it's going to be with a major patch. If this really is as good as it gets, getting online the same day as a large patch is probably not going to happen for a lot of us.

I don't know about 20mins but mine only took around 5mins to compete the copying, so it's likely just isolated to a group of users rather than every single PS4 player. The 4.4 patch took longer but that was to be expected, but nothing in the range of having to complain about it (not saying you can't, just my experience has so far been ok).

The copying likely depends on what kind of HDD the PS4 has. I doubt anyone is that interested in forking out for new HDDs or pulling the PS4 apart over somethng that worked perfectly fine in the first place. Not to mention you're not doing anything in "rest mode" unless you are paying for Plus.


all the other small patches would take 1-2 mins to download and install, max. A big one would be more like 15. This tiny patch took 20 minutes copying - and that was after it downloaded. If you have poor download speed as well, good luck to you.


I'd prefer they let us choose the method of delivery.

They should just revert tbh. PS4 "copying" files stage of updates for any games have always been trash.

It should not take me 20-30 minutes of waiting after downloading a 1 min minor update to be able to play.

Under the old system I fully downloaded and was able to play major patches and expacs quicker than im able to play minor patches since the changes.

TLDR: Revert to the old patch sytem on PS4 the new one is an absolute joke.

Pretty sure that's standard for virtually every ps4 game. One reason why you need 2x as much hard drive space for updates (which is IMO the more annoying issue) because it copies the game data or some nonsense.

If 15 minutes of downtime is really ruining your day then there's no positive advice anyone can give. I always do major updates in the morning before I go to work so it's ready to go when I get back home. /shrug

We have, both times. The expansion drops a day or two early while the servers stay in maintenance mode, no different to PC patches right now.

Also don't forget how PS4 users got 4.4 almost immediately after servers went down. Talk about scare mongering.

I dunno why people complain. I downloaded the 13 gig patch for 4.4 the other day in a little over 30 minutes. That's not particularly shabby at all. Dunno if it's a nationality thing I hear American internet sucks compared to British but how true that really is I couldn't say

I checked it out myself with my download it took me about 20 minutes give or take.

Lol, I just got an error message that I can't even download the patch file: "Not enough space left."

I have 35,9 GB left of free space, btw, I am using a rather small SSD. The whole game is only 33,5 GB, this is indeed ridiculous.

Because this is a minor patch udpate and it turns what was/is a 1 minute dowload and increases the entire patching proccess by 2000%.

When major patches or expacs drop it only gets worse. Im a day 1 raider, 4.4 took 2 hours total and was not ready in time for me to log at servers going up despite the actual download taking 15 mins tops.

I attributed this at the time to it being the first patch of its type, clearly it isnt.

Its not SEs fault that PS4s own patch/update system is trash but we had a different and arguably better system before.
