Sony Reverses Stance on CrossPlay - Can we get an update on FFXIV for Xbox?

I know MS removed the obligatory about using only Xbox servers, and you can see that everywhere (Minecraft have cross play with switch, Fortnite have with a lot of platforms).

About having Xbox Live Gold, I think that is still a issue.

I really want a Xbox One X version of FFXIV. I stopped playing in 4K in PS4 pro because of the performance issues and the Elite controller would work splendid with this game.

I'm not privy if this is still a requirement, but Xbox reversed that requirement for ESO before ESO went free to play. Also, it didn't have that requirement for FFXI so there is already precedence. I agree, that Gold shouldn't be required. But I don't think it will be.

Bonus points: cosplayers may use the term "crossplay" as short for "crossdressing cosplay", ie. picking a character opposite to your own gender.

I didn't know that about crossdressing cosplay! I had no idea it was even more specific. Oh, dear. I find all of this funnier than I probably should.

The separate server issue for Xbox is no longer an issue as a year or more ago, Microsoft said that if your game was made for Windows 10, your exempt. XIV is Made for Windows 10 so this it was the Sony road block. With that gone... it’s all in the Devs hands.

Yes, I suspect SE was one of the companies pushing for the decision for FFXIV specifically. At this point in the game's lifecycle, expanding the game to more platforms is a logical next step (to keep introducing new players as some of the older generation burns out). Assuming this continues to pan out, it would not surprise me at all if they announce the game for XB1 and possibly Switch at Fanfest and launch with the new expansion. (This might also give them the motivation to finally go through and prune the 2.x story quests, as they mentioned they have a work plan to do.)

For a while now, the only barrier has been Sony politics (because this could be seen as benefiting their competitors more than it benefits them -- until it crosses the threshold where customers demand it and it becomes a selling point for the competition). When Yoshida makes comments about this, he's been cagey to avoid placing the blame on Sony (since they're an important partner), but it's been fairly clear this is really the hold-up for all the game companies at this point.

Hum...I'm pretty sure epic pressured sony into the crossplay, cause its only in BETA tryout. The roadblock is still there.

I don't think it will be on Xbox, for now. Last I heard, Microsoft still requires a gold subscription to even play games like Fortnite. SE can always make an exception, but I doubt they would want Xbox users to double dip on sub fees if they are only interested in playing this game. I doubt it would make much of a difference, but I feel like they'll get more players if they can somehow get MS to drop the mandatory gold requirement.
