Sony Reverses Stance on CrossPlay - Can we get an update on FFXIV for Xbox?

I'm sorry I'm not going to add anything useful here, but I keep reading the topic title as "Sony Reverses Stance on CosPlay".

Bonus points: cosplayers may use the term "crossplay" as short for "crossdressing cosplay", ie. picking a character opposite to your own gender.

My brain went straight to "are we finally getting all the gender-locked gear made available for all characters?"

They took them down for XI, but with Xbox One they put them back up. There's a whole other thread about it that I can't remember the link for, but they have the source there. Something about progress on Switch type thread in the title IIRC.

Ah yes, Microsoft reversed that a few years ago and has been working for more Cross-play.

No FFXIV on Xbox was never because of Sony....

Where do you see that? These walls were taken down years ago... so if MS is demanding that again, please let me know. I haven't seen these be requirements for a long time.

They had never changed their stance on this. Not sure where you are getting info from. SE has had multiple meetings with MS and are no further ahead.

If FFXIV ends up being released on the Xbox and/or Switch then that will increase the time it takes for new content to go live due to additional development time and testing being required. By the sounds of it, the development team is already overworked so I can't imagine such a move being great for the game's health moving forward.

I know MS removed the obligatory about using only Xbox servers, and you can see that everywhere (Minecraft have cross play with switch, Fortnite have with a lot of platforms).

About having Xbox Live Gold, I think that is still a issue.

I really want a Xbox One X version of FFXIV. I stopped playing in 4K in PS4 pro because of the performance issues and the Elite controller would work splendid with this game.

By the sounds of it, the development team is already overworked so I can't imagine such a move being great for the game's health moving forward.

That will be not much of a issue, since porting PC game to Xbox is really easy.

I'm afraid we're going to have to disagree on your point there. Microsoft shifted over two years ago to the cross-play model and said they would love for FFXIV to come to the platform, which reversed the previous stance of them running on their own servers. Examples of this are Minecraft, Fortnite, and more.

You are correct, that was their stance originally, however, over the last two or more years, the focus has been that Sony has been blocking this... (there are other policies that could also be blocking this within Microsoft, but we haven't been inlighted to what they are).

Phil Spencer has gone on record saying he wants cross-play, to play together and FFXIV on Xbox.

They can have non Xbox servers, but Xbox players can have the option of only playing with other Xbox users, that is the part SE doesn't like

So there would still be Xbox only servers, for people who don't want cross play. It was on their website when they annou ced the Xbox cross play move.

Not necessarily, with more players, comes more revenue, which helps add resources... But also, Xbox runs on Windows 10, and so does XIV, so I don't think it's going to be a huge impact.
