Next Final Fantasy MMO due soon?

That you may actually get.. There is rumor that Final Fantasy XVI- will be either one of two things.. It was talked about that if single player, it was going to be inspired more from Skyrim/Zelda Breath of the Wild, which would be interesting. The other rumor is that it may be more like Destiny (not a FPS LMAO), but big open world, single player story driven, but you can play with others.. Its more likely they go that route if they make another multiplayer title.. I do know one thing for sure, XIV will not last as long as XI did- no way.. It feels like the team has either run out of ideas, or they are working on something newer and bigger.

I absolutely agree, I had more playing XIV in 1.0 than now...it’s time to go back to the roots and trash this stale theme park bull crap. Make the community , progression, and jobs revelant.. #MAKEFFMMOSGREATAGAIN

A few years from now could make sense. FFXI in 2002, FFXIV in 2010. In theory that could make a new MMO very soon likely (I mean going by that pattern it should have been released this year!), but if you think of FFXIV 2.0 as more of a new game, would put it more in the 2022 range (8 years after 2.0). I think a new one around 2022 could certainly make sense (which would likely put it in preliminary stages now).

I'd be surprised if there's not at least a small team working on ideas / concepts / etc for a new MMO, but that could go on for years before real development started.

The only thing I want from the next FF MMO is for it to take place entirely in Ivalice. That's right, I want the playable races to be the various races from FFXII, Tactics Advance, and Tactics Advance 2. So much of that world we've never seen.

That's horrible to hear. Nexon is cancer to gaming. My first real MMO was one of their games 20 years ago. Every so often they just would up and delete any accounts that hadn't been subbed within something like 2 or 3 months. I played for years and all of my characters that I invested hundreds of hours into went bye bye.

I really doubt it. This game still feels practically 'new' and there's still so much left to do in it. I wouldn't put stock in pattern measuring from XI to this, since there's only one example, a pattern doesn't really exist.

If they do, I hope they consider the Switch as a port, online RPGs would be pretty awesome to take with you. Thought maybe that XI remake would pop up, but I think it's shelved like so many of their other projects.

A new MMO that should be a spinoff, not a mainline FF game. Smaller scale, three man parties, overworld dungeons and raids, lots of exploring and looting, horizontal progression where you can raid, pvp, or just grind for endgame gear. No more trinity, just three capable jobs going out and saving the world.

The only reason SE killed the original Final Fantasy XIV (1.0) was because no one could run it without issues, the game had too much graphics quality at the time besides having such slow gameplay, the current XIV looks really old now and I welcome any idea of making a new MMO in the main Final Fantasy line!...


It takes about five years to develop a game so there should still be a couple of years left for this game, maybe one last expansion, the PlayStation 5 is expected to release by next year's end and the Producer had said that's what they needed to improve the visuals in this title, instead of that they could focus all that work into making the next Final Fantasy Online, I only hope they allow us to import our characters from Eorzea and continue the adventure in the new realm, whatever happens Miqo'te and Hyur must be brought back in the next game!...

Uh, I wouldn't say it was the ONLY reason. It was also a terrible, terrible piece of garbage.

Well, the results of the survey hasn't been released yet (I actually had great fun writing my thoughts and ideas in that one)... plus that interview by Happy is almost a year old.

Secondly, Yoshi and his team have just attained the 14 million+ mark... and business sense is that SE will continue pushing FFXIV with those kind of numbers. Storywise, I reckon they can crank out at least a couple more good expansions before seeing a wane.

That said, yes it would make sense to start looking five years ahead and try to start thinking of the bare bones of a Next Gen Final Fantasy MMO.
