Next Final Fantasy MMO due soon?

I saw a Mr. Happy Video a couple of months back, and saw him talking about a 3rd Final Fantasy MMO in the works, that it will have elements of both FFXI and FFXIV on it, and that it could be out in 2020?

Any news on this? xD.

I don't think there's been any actual confirmation aside from a question on a survey.

It's seems weird that with the disaster that was 1.0 that they'd want to make a new one so soon.
If it actually comes out I'd want something new rather than just another FFXI spin-off.

I can't see them making another mmo when they don't have enough resources to run either one of the existing ones. Folks keep getting shifted back and forth between XI and XIV, who is going to develop another mmo? Who is going to maintain it? They are barely keeping this one afloat with the current repetitive formula and obvious cash grabs.

This game is severely limited by its engine and left overs from 1.0, so the only way to finally break past the limitations of the game and develop more robust content they would need to build a new engine from the ground up. By that point they may as well just be making a new game. My guess is they are maybe in initial planning and discussion of they can make a new FF MMO profitable and what to do with XIV. We probably wouldn't hear anything for 2-4 years at the earliest since these things take a while to develop and SE has not shown the most competent management style in the past decade. Good chance information will trickle out right around the time we would expect to hear about 6.0.

I think they were discussing the mobile version of FFXI. Mr. Happy has vehemently said he doesn't think SE will do another MMO for years when asked about it. I doubt we hear anything until 2022 at the earliest.

They won't make a new MMO for awhile i imagine. XIV still going strong and XI is getting a mobile port soon ish which is outsourced.

If they are making an MMO it would have to be very different from FFXI or FFXIV. Otherwise they would just be competing with themselves for subs/players. Honestly though, I hope they dont. At least dont make it a main numbered Final Fantasy, maybe even look at their other IP's for other MMO inspiration. Star Ocean?

Considering Yoshida has voiced 'aiming for 10 years,' I find it highly unlikely unless the game's engine (Crystal Tools) leads to issues that can't be rectified. Other LLPs have stated they are looking to do a graphical update for XIV, but it's not slated for 5.0 - they may plan to implement other changes along with the graphics (who knows). Seems like an awful lot of work planned in the future if they're just going to release another MMO that will ultimately compete with themselves.

I wonder if given the chance they would even make a new MMO.
Blizzard canned theirs and Titan became Overwatch.
I get a feeling that SE's profits come from mobile cash grabs and publishing rather than having to dump a ton of resources, time and investment into this game.
Given the almost universal failure rate of MMOs in general I wonder if it would be worth their time?

There was some survey feedback a while back about what kind of games players would be interested in, and there was some leading questions about final fantasy mmo's and microtransactions, thus players of FFXIV essentially put two and two together that they were looking for feedback on what kind of game players would willingly pay through the nose for.

In all honesty, if SE releases another FF game with mobile game style microtransactions, I'm just going to nope-out. I've noped-out of all their mobile titles. Artificially limiting game play with a microtransaction P2W mechanic is just greedy, and proves there is no compelling gameplay. It's just a contest to how much money you're willing to spend on a game that might not even survive the next hardware refresh.
