Where did the Lalafell hate originate?

Personally, it was initially because of Lolorito and Teledji...and much later Yuyuhase. I literally wanted to strangle those little muppets. Plus, as an Elezen at the time, I was always worried that if I offended Lalas, they would try to bite my kneecaps (old joke from FFXI). Even having several friends who played as Lalafell was not enough to convince me otherwise.

Then I met Cocobusi and his brothers, Pipin, Wedge, Tataru, the mining twins (I forget their names now) and of course Nanamo and they greatly realigned my dislike towards that race.

So yeah...I'm fine with what they are; and as for the people who play them, it boils down to the person's innate character not the Lala race itself.

Funny that you mention that, the few very toxic people in this forum happen to play Au Ra and Miqo'te. Race has nothing to do with how people behave, you don't start acting differently when you fantasia.

I've never agreed with the idea that Miqo'te are inferior to Mithra, but I absolutely feel that way about Lalafells compared to Tarutaru. With their updated look, I can neither find Lalafells cute nor take them seriously. With Tarutaru, I could do either, depending on the situation. Whenever I see a Lalafell I just lament at how much better they could be.

Oh, it goes back even before Teledji and Lolorito. The pragmatic, warmonger ways of the Lalafells is how we have Ul'dah in its current state. There is no worse enemy to a Lala than another Lala. So if you want to look at the originations of their hate, you don't even have to inquire outside their own race. Lorewise, anyway. Even the current Sultana became so at a very young age due to her parents dying in a horrible "accident", and oh how easily is a young mind manipulated. Everyone knows their deaths were no accident, and everyone discretely points their implicating finger in the same direction of a particular potato.

I think the general stigma towards Lalas ties more into just poking fun a them than actual hatred. If there is any hate there though, I would say their history in Eorzea definitely influences it. And how adorable the lot of you are really only makes the throat stabbing worse!

A few years ago, I made my main character and tried to play this game. This lasted all of a week and here I shall explain why:

On this last fateful day of play, I zoned into the Ul'Dah Aetheryte Plaza, whereupon I could hear an endless shrill sound, akin to the shrieks of innocent creatures being slaughtered, whilst enduring the lengthy loading screen my poor computer, in its Frankenputer dotage, experiences. I walked away during this loading, to make a nice cup of tea, and when I came back with delicious beverage, the annoying sound had not ceased. I steered my character away from the Aetheryte, only to discover the maddening sound was following me. "But why?" I wondered, "To what end does this incessant squealing assault and plague me? Oh Gods, make it stop!" It was then I looked down and to my horror, witnessed a small, potato-like creature gesticulating at me, painful ululations emanating from its tiny maw, chilling every fibre of my being! Wherever I went, it followed, signalling and bewailing its malicious intent. I could not escape! This monstrous creation, I latterly learned, was known as a "lalafell", and these terrors were borne like locusts upon the night into habitations all over Eorzea, terrifying the locals with such keening as this. For the nonce, I did the only thing I could:

I contacted support, blacklisted the eldritch abomination, and acquired a distaste for all things lalafell thereafter. I also quit the game until earlier this year.

I don't actually hate lalafells, I even have one as an alt. I also think Tataru is the one true god, and it's just a matter of time until we're all bowing down:

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Tataru R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn! (but not really, she doesn't fit in that sense).

Perhaps not, but enough are that I wish they'd allow a separate mute option for lala noises like they did for performance. I still wouldn't want to look at them, but I at least wouldn't hate them if I didn't have to hear their constant, squeaky, emote spam every time I teleported to Limsa.

Your problem was going to Limsa in the first place.

Well, this is what 4chan thinks, but /xivg/ is Degeneracy Central, so I wouldn't put much stock in their opinion.

My favourite is the r/ffxiv Discord losing partnership status due to Lalafel pornography, so those degenerates might be onto something.

No offense to the potatoes currently populating this thread but in MY personal experience since 2.0 most (good 96%) of the lalafels I've run into were more or less jerks for the sake of being jerks or generally so full of themselves you could see their ego from outer space. So yeah that kinda fostered a bit of a....distaste toward potatoes. I love French fries though!!!

If you met with so many jerks, maybe the problem is with you, not with lalafell players.

I think associating a race as a point of a problem is just too short sighted. In my opinion there have always been jokes made about lalafels but it's always meant to be in good-natured fun. I can see where a player might reasonably see that there is a lot of lalafel hate if you haven't been exposed to the culture of XIV as long as some of the other folks.
