I fully agree with that post. One of the rare & only flying objectives we have is like stingray circles checkpoints quest in the ruby sea & besides that, mounts actions.I agree that the point of flying is ultimately a reward for completing the MSQ in the area and finding the other currents but flying doesn't really add anything to the game besides faster travel and nice views. I can't think of any content that involves flying because correct me if I'm wrong, Diadem is the only duty with flying being essential. But only because of faster travel and safety. It doesn't add anything else actually...
While flying we are unable to do anything besides eat food and drink potions. We are completely restricted from any sort of mechanics in the game(because the mechanics are ground-level)
Now if flying had mechanics or real content associated with it, I'd probably like flying alot more. We could have air combat, not likely though. Having some objectives, collectables, or sightseeing in the air would help. Also I'm reminded of an activity in DC Universe Online where you had race challenges. Simple mini-game where you had to fly through rings and if you were good at it you got gold medals and achievements. There were running race mini-games too. And the races were scattered all over the maps, a ton of them. Some were pretty difficult to win. I could see a thing like that being enjoyable as I do love open-wotld activities myself at least. Things like the sightseeing log and jump puzzles.

There is like soo much potential wasted with the system.

There are entire zones that would not be freely explorable without free flight. Having ideas for improving flight does not negate it, it cements it.I agree that the point of flying is ultimately a reward for completing the MSQ in the area and finding the other currents but flying doesn't really add anything to the game besides faster travel and nice views. Most ground based mechanics don't work on ground mounts either. Maybe they should get of mounts altogether?
Why are playing a fantasy game when you have a low tolerance for fantasy elements?

What are you even talking about... Negate what? There are entire zones that would not be freely explorable without free flight. Having ideas for improving flight does not negate it, it cements it.

Ground mechanics like enemy attacks and all the ways they attack, sightseeing spots, and of course, the land itself. While not actually a mechanic, the land matters to a ground mount.
I don't know where you got your question from. Flying combat, racing with winged animals, collectables floating in the sky and jotting down sightseeing logs while 5,000ft up in the sky on the back of a dragon sounds fantasy to me.

I can't find it at present, but I'm pretty sure one of the older interviews mentioned some sort of planned mini game involving flight and rings in the sky to fly through. Nothing came of that though.
:( now that just sucks. I hope they're reading this maybe they might remember if they forgot. I'd be okay even if it became a late 5.x addition. I think running a version of it would be awesome too!
