you need to know in wich slot the item is placed you want to gather. normally the same item is always in the same slot. so when your item is in slot number 6, you hit slot 6 one time to unlock it and then you can gather the item. you will lose 1 gathering attempt this way, but you will save the 300 GP.

Ah thanks ok that makes more sense. I thought that I just needed to get higher gathering in order to clear the out of reach. Now I know I don't need to aim for gathering to get that I can focus on getting more collectibles by a single hit.

I'd assumed that using a single hit wasn't as good as toll. I've been getting between 3 and 5 collectibles per node at present so racking up the scrips but going through cordial like it's water. At least crafting HQ cordials is trivial and low mat requirements given my minions gathering them on their ventures.

I've used ffxivclock a lot and the corresponding iPhone app. Although the app is great for alerting it's got a serious bug that drains the battery on my phone something rotten.
