You're mixing desirable and beneficial. If there is an effect resulting from ingesting alcohol and people drink alcohol to obtain these effects, then indeed these become desirable, even if it's just for fun, or to add some challenge to whatever content. You're assuming the effects would be desirable, as someone else said, give the player gravity status and reduce their accuracy to show that alcohol impairs functionality. You really don't have an argument here, but I'll keep debating if you'd like.
And you asked when did public drunkenness have anything to do with FF? PUBlic. PUBS. NPCs drink in pubs. I illustrated a few points where non-player characters drink in public throughout FF's history. I am full aware of the difference between a reference and a system of being intoxicated (like most other MMOs have). When did it fit with the theme of FF? Let's see, FFIV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, FFXI, FFXII, FFXIV...
I'm all for it, sounds like fun. I think others are just pointing out that it may not be worth it if it means that the rating is going to change. Rules are strict, and just because some people "think that it does not make sense to change the rating because of alcohol" does not make it a given

Every good Pirate has a bottle of rum hidden somewhereI always wonder why people want this in other games, it's like, you use it once and it lost it's fun aspect after that.
Risking a higher rating over it is just not worth it.
Alcohol references are fine though, pirates without alcohol is just..wrong.
But making it available to the player is a whole different thing.![]()

It's usually packed with a T rating. It's not gonna do much to the game already. I'd like to see alcohol introduced when we get the obligatory SAM class that was already confirmed. It'd be interesting to see alcohol prove to be a superior substitute for food, but it also comes with a drawback. a la WRPGs.
ex. +25 ATT -15 ACC
Stuff like that. Heavy risks, but also beneficial over foods.

Don't forget the hangover, -10% vit and def for 20% of the duration of the alcohol buffIt's usually packed with a T rating. It's not gonna do much to the game already. <Burn> <Moko Grass> <Shriek Shrooms> <Ice Rock> <You Can Have This>

That's the typical example which could get the game a higher rating, and I'm not only talking about the ESRB, but especially about EU rating. (way easier here to get a PEGI16 instead of PEGI12 here). It's usually packed with a T rating. It's not gonna do much to the game already. The main difference between PEGI and ESRB is that you guys in the US almost never use the "Ao" rating. Only few games have it, most of them being rated Ao because of porn. So everything is being splitted either between "T" or "M". With nothing in between. Hence why certain games can get a "T" even when mentioning alcohol etc.
While in Europe, we do have PEGI12/16 and 18. 18 is widely used for all kind of games. MW3 is PEGI18. Batman is PEGI18 etc.
So games a game like XIV, PEGI12, conveying message like "drink alcohol = gets you more strength" could easily get a PEGI16 rating. And SE do not want that.
