Things change, of course, but it's not a good thing when you continually go back on what you said. Would you be friends with someone who did this? States one thing, sometimes adamantly, and then a bit later does a complete 180? How far would you trust this friend?

Yeah, but I'm sure people still complained or drag them through the mud if that happens. Same as here. I'll give you a recent example: No Man's Sky. No one's perfect obviously but that doesn't mean people can't get annoyed and they will if you pitch a product that's supposed to have x things and hype it up, then it doesn't have some of them.

Is it a big deal? Nah not really but often people don't appreciate being lied to especially when there is money involved.

    Well that depends.

If my friend 5 years ago said he was going to continue doing the bare minimum in life and then he went back on his word and now wants to do more and have a positive impact on life, I'm not going to hang him for that.

Point is the circumstances around someone or a company changes. Sometimes for ill and sometimes for the better.

But context is key here. He didn't lie as he had no plans to change it at the time. Doesn't mean things can't change, and they did. I dunno, just seems like people expect perfection when they themselves are far from perfect. Thats what it feels like anyway.

I don't think it makes sense to say "Everyone else breaks promises so you should just accept it and be happy."

Sure, it is naive to think that promises will always be kept (especially by business companies), but that doesn't mean you can't be upset if a promise does get broken.

So I would think about it before you make fun of people for being upset. Yeah people in general do this sort of thing all the time, go back on their word, but regular people aren't a company selling a product.

You could say that about anything though, "They didn't lie because they changed their mind" means you could brush anything anyone says off and if that's how you feel that's fine. It's just giving license to other people to say whatever they want and not have any accountability. It also feels like spinning, like what lawyers or PR people do.

In real life people don't risk that so they sign binding documents, or take an oath.

Point taken, I just can't help but see it as abit unfair to be honest. I get companies have different standards then you or me talking, but I guess I also don't expect companies to keep the same promises for over 5 years as too many things change. The fact we didn't have personal houses when he made that statement to me makes sense. I might be projecting but it just looks like everyone is mad and is just looking for reasons to say " See SE is a jerk" or whatever and noone is looking past their anger to actually see what happened or the context in the statements. But that's how it looks to me, and I don't mean everyone is blindly mad, you and Miste aren't for example. But yeah.

I'm going to state what I mentioned in the other thread about the earrings.

Players have a voice here. There are times when our voices were heard and changes were made. People were upset that single players would own an entire neighborhood, but not log in for months at a time. Something had to be done. I disagree with how "short" the timeframe is, but that's just my opinion.

The developers have to carefully consider every action they take, even though I'm sure to us, it doesn't seem that way sometimes. They've decided to make those earrings available to try and help bridge a gap between the legacy and current players. I don't think they anticipated it to cause such a stir, but that decision was probably made months ago.

You're (you the players) are still here because there are other benefits to this game that you enjoy besides the housing aspect or besides the legacy items being given away now. Of course you are welcome to have an opinion on the direction or changes in the game. We all do! And sometimes those are heard - and sometimes they aren't. I'm just glad that we have a place where we can openly discuss these instead of being ignored, or worse, banned because we dared to make a suggestion.

"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
    "We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

Context is really the key here. It's not really about the broken promise per se - it's about a broken housing system. We wanted a better housing system for years now. And it seems a better system was promised back then.

We still suffer under the current system today. And that's the reason why the promises from 5 years ago are still relevant. And they will stay relevant until they fix housing.

I mean where are the topics about the promised egi-glamours? We got the Carbuncles, but what is with the other egis? And completely new egis?
What was with Free Company Alliances?

A lot of things were said wich never happend (yet) and we don't really care - but this housing stuff is what is stuck in our heads. We really want a better system here!
