Why do you all feel FFXIV is a sequel to FFXI?

FF game genre as a whole has always confused me. I mean what is it about this game that keeps ppl coming back for XIV games?! lol

Its basically the same base story. World in Peril, must save world, band of characters get together to save world. Tragedy strikes, love delvelops. Evil vanquished!

It's the same spells, mobs, and currency as well.

Yet.... Crafty devs at Square-Enix can craft a compelling story, group of characters, amazing graphics with each successive iteration. They reinvent the gameplay to make each game different, the world is different even though it needs saving.

Amazingly everytime, they change just enough to make it enough different to buy again. Story and graphics are my main draw.

And the story cutscenes and graphics is what drew me to FFXIV. It's just to bad that there really isn't that many they are so well done with what is here.

So yeah, nearly every FF game is the same game just reinvented. So in a sense this is XI just reinvented to make a new MMO!

This is the same basic story for every game, and movie, and tv show(except seinfeld), and book.

The fact that this series is so popular is a testiment to the fact that Square knows how to do it well.

lol your right My point was applauding SqEnix on how well they reinvent this series To make it worth a compelling purchase everytime. yet still familiar enough to Veterans to pick up and play and not have to relearn everything all over again.

Honestly i think making a FFXI-2 or turning this into a FFXI ramke with better graphics will make FFXIV fail even more then it did. I'm sorry for all of you who love FFXI but let's be realistic... FFXI is not on anyone's best games list as someone mentioned before... even if you google top 5 or top 10 MMORPGS, FFXI is not even mentioned. The user base is very low and it always was ever since WOW came out. In terms of being successful, FFXI is a fail so in no way will SE benefit from taking too much things from FFXI. Yes FFXI is better then XIV but that's cuz they messed up really bad not cuz it should have been FFXI-2.
