    I always thought in alpha/beta this was because it was the test version.. then it came retail and it was still like this i was amazed!! How can you go from woods to desert in just one zone, doesn't make sense, and it's clearly a result of rushing this game out. Good you bring this under attention, hope this is (finally) fixed in 2.0, but i doubt that..;;

That made-up XIV map is not even fully accurate.

Amazing how big Ro'Maeve really is!

Your assumption is skewed from the get-go simply for the fact that each "map" in XIV consist of more than one "areas" in XI. Thus there is slightly more artistic freedom in it's creation. Just like Korroloka tunnel should be much longer of a tunnel to represent the true scope of going from Bastok to Kuzotz.

Pagh'th'an could make the scales fit better but in the end it would be a negligible space that in XI would have been divided by a zoneline either way. It's like making the bridge to Jeuno have its own zone.

Its the typical response. If you post something that could be inferred as a criticism, you can bank on being getting plenty of "feedback"

um...Paglth'an would not be the same as a bridge to Jeuno...it would be a whole freaking Region not a mere connection point. But I feel like you know this...you have to. But you didnt even take notice to the compasses that are on each map, so what would I have to do to prove you that there is a missing region? Since the world map and a compiled map isn't enough? Must we have a Rep come in and say there is a missing Region? I doubt they would say that, because it would look bad on them...but whatever. I know whats missing, and this game's Regions are certainly one of them.

The part of the region that would link thanalan to black shroud would be extremely tiny at best.

The region is missing but it has very little to do with the current maps' consistency. That's what I'm saying. XI always released regions in stages even when they were part of the same expansion. They were opened up once they had developed some content (context) to them.

Obviously the original plans are out of the window now in favor of remodeling what we already have access to.

Someone should show the FF14 world map to the Garleans, they went straight passed Gridania before they crash landed in Mor Dhona =)

When it comes to maps the horizontal and vertical consistency of the explorable landmass is kept, that doesn't mean they are the same way when it comes to the continent as a whole.

Compare the world map with Thanalan's in-game map. The western shore should tilt southeast much more than it currently does.
no, I tried to mess aroudn with it in a crappy photo editor, if you tilt it so the "south forest" more closely matches up to the east thanalan, "south forest" becomes more of a "west forest" and "west forest" becomes more "north forest"

Even if you proportion the maps correctly (lining up the x,y coordinates and matching box size on a 1:1) the zone line don't match up even closely between the black shroud and Thanalan.

one thing that SE did well in FFXI was created zone lines that made sense. if you exited one zone from the south west you entered the next from the north east.

In this case you exit Gridania from the south and enter Thanalan from a more east bound direction.

Sounds like we better call Scooby and the gang for this one.

Or we can fast forward to the part where we unmask Old Man Jenkins, the Lighthouse keeper. He'd have gotten away with his plan to keep beachfront property all to himself if it weren't for us meddling adventurers.

I don't really see a missing region in there anywhere >.>

When going from Ul'dah to Gridania you take the north-eastern route. On the world map provided that takes you through Thanalan, Paglth'an, Vugr'am River, Hathoeva River and into the Black Shroud. At least, that's what it looks like. It's not all pictured in-game but it's there.
