The Kobold see it as the resting place of their Primal God (Titan), while the Roegadyn believe the Volcano houses a portal to Hell, and they've pledged to guard it and make sure a certain mighty Demon (Titan) never comes through.

One of the entrances to the Volcano is U'ghamaro Mines, and presumably, the mines were going to be an instanced dungeon where you fought Titan as the boss. Titan was going to be the first Primal battle and his model has been in the game since launch, but they decided to postpone the Titan battle because they thought it would be insensitive to Japanese players still recovering from the earthquake.

Hope that answers your question, and then some.
I understand about half of this to be just an assumption - the Hellsguard are known to have the mentioned connection to volcanoes, but as to whether O'Ghomoro is one they inhabited is a very different question, as is any conflict with the Kobolds. If you have proof, I'd be keen to know your source. I'm not saying you're wrong, but that you might not be right either.

You're absolutely right, sorry I should have clarified.

This info isn't really stated, it's what I've put together via clues. There really isn't that much lore in the game, so you kind of have to fill in blanks. I could be completely wrong, but we'll never know until they tell us.

Seeing as Hellsguard live in volcanos, and O'ghomoro is the only volcano on Eorzea, I thought it was a pretty safe assumption, especially since the Roegadyn originally came from a Western continent and when they migrated, the island of Vylbrand was the first land mass they discovered. (hence the bigger population of Roe's in Limsa.)

And the part about them fighting the Kobolds (who definitely inhabit the volcano) just makes sense. The Kobolds want to summon Titan and the Hellsguard are trying to stop a great beast from coming from the volcano. Makes sense to me that Titan and the "great beast" are one and the same.

Ships usually follow certain routes which are easier and faster to travel and have lower risk on getting damaged.
So maybe south/north of Vylbrand are dangerous currents which will throw a ship into the cliffs,
or there are many shallows, so the ship will have to take a wide detour.

Actually, I can attest to the ferry not going directly east to west and then slightly north, and vice-versa. I [accidentally] discovered that the ferry goes south of Limsa Lominsa a LOT before going east. I glitched into the water once from Bald Knoll, and decided to take a run to Limsa Lominsa (Ran into a cave, lagged, and ended up underneath the Isles of Umbra. Also, the water textures glitch(?) very far from the shore - it turns into black squares). Over there, in Limsa Lominsa, the ferry was just leaving as I ran underneath it, so I continued following it. Around 30 seconds later, the ferry speeds up a LOT, leaving me behind, but I continued running to it in a straight line until it vanished. I waited for the next ferry before doing the same, and discovered I was running directly SOUTH, even slightly to the west in fact. (This was before chocobos, so I did not have the advantage of my fast fat chicken.) I was off the map already (the M one) but the mini-map still showed which direction I was running to.

By the time the ferry actually started angling to the east, Vylbrand was barely visible, much like how we actually see it when we approach Limsa Lominsa. And this was only when it started angling; it angles not directly east, but south-east, making it even less likely to see the island. This may be taking the realism a bit too far, but that is the path the ferry takes when I was running with it. Sorry, there were no screenshots; I only remembered that occasion when I read back to this topic; I didn"t think it"ll be something interesting like this, haha. I also did not make it to Thanalan; game kept disconnecting me after a certain point.

According to a NPC in Ul'dah, Hellsguard are actually from the northern mountains of Abalathia's Spine, Which is a mountain range with volcanoes north of Dravania. It's apparently north of Ishgard but most Hellsguard in game seem to immigrate to Ul'Dah. The Seawolf homeland on the other hand is apparently even farther north of Eorzea, many of them just happened to settle in Limsa.

    Hope that clears things up.

It save to say that the Hellsguard Roegadyn do not live in the mountain of LL because Elezen are the original inhabitants of Eorzea and the rest are just living on Eorzea.

That becuase most male play Female Char and seeing how Miqo'te are hot in there eyes they pick them. Just how in FFXI people was told not to take girls being mithra for real because they could be guys trying to get money which was the case more then not. People also play hyurs the most like in ffxi "Humes" because that what we are in real life and lalafall just like the tar in FFXI there cute so most girls and guys pick them also for that reason.

I myself like elvaan due to the fact how they look and find the female really nice looking and i myself don't think miqo'te or humes are just w/e to me lalafall are cute but i can't stand being that small lol.

Now i don't know why there not that many NPC elvaan o.o lol there more of the other race then anything maybe there a reason for it.

Far away, deep in the mountains of Ul’dah, live mountain clans of reclusive Roegadyn known as the Hellsguard, said to have mastered the magical arts.
Hellsguard come from the mountains of Ul'dah.

Hmm, the NPC Vavaki in Ul'dah says otherwise. I guess they don't have their stories straight haha.

That and it's likely due to FFXIV.com being very old and a teaser site lol.
