dont you just love the ignorant people who think this game is doing so magnificently? What a dream world they live in lol.You don't play on Bodhum. I did a walk around head count.
(In case you didnt realize it, I was referring to active people logged on at one time)
BTW, it;s easy to merge servers beacuse they wont have much of a problem with duplicate character names. Moving data is simple. In the canse of dupe names all they need is an alet at logon forcing name change.
It's fated to happen. They probably are just waiting the billing start to have an idea of the size of the issue. Makes no sense thinking about it now since population might change drastically after billing start.
"Ignorance is a blessing." Happiness and knowledge often walk in the opposite direction...here included. The only ones thinking the game is great are the ones who have no idea what they talking about or are blind by their fanboysm...

either way, I d like to have a official answer on this matter.Make a new character at other server is not a proper solution, it is like telling them to waste their work, the time they spend.
And ofc it ll be low population merger with high population as always w/o say or suggest or new idea, that s how server merger work after all.
Transfer character is not a option either, more of less there will a restrict that force ppl to enter other server, those player who wish to play together (friends, LS) will be the victims
I make this thread in hope that SE will have some solution about this so it can bring the fun back to low population servers. It is not fun to play a p2p mmorpg but the most of time you play with yourself like a offline rpg.
ps: I am on Besaid, the population is not bad, but I d love to have more ppl in this server. My english is crap, hope you got what I mean
A server merger makes sense if the population drops drastically (so it really depends on that). The 1.0 version of FFXI isn't really going to be collecting any new players, and new 2.0 players will be on new 2.0 servers, so there's no need to accommodate them. In the meantime:
1. It would make the game environment feel more alive when you're able to encounter more online players per server.
2. Players won't lose "morale" when it comes to organizing enough participants for team events, parties and linkshells like they would if they were left on a mostly vacant server.
3. It would reduce the time of server maintenance (not to mention reduce the cost of a cash-strapped operation).

I agree with the point that SE should wait until after billing to evaluate server mergers. Personally, I'd even like them to hold off until after 1.21, because even if players aren't going to stick around now, the introduction of jobs could generate a lot of interest simply because of the nostalgia attached to the names.
After that point I think it's feasible to evaluate which is the best option, even offering a one-time transfer to the more empty servers could help the problem, that way players would have the ability to choose where they head (potentially meeting up with old friends they were separated from at launch) instead of being forced into a server merge.
i think the point is there are already pretty empty servers now, when its free and knowing that when it comes time to pay its can only go down. Would be better to pre-empt it now before people get mad they are on a dead server and quit themselves.I agree with the point that SE should wait until after billing to evaluate server mergers. Yep.
Sever desolation is a popular reason why people have quit. Why bother playing an MMO if there's no one around?

i need some of the drugs you are on if you think there are more people in game now than there was at release. at release all 3 cities had full wards and people in all 3. now you don't even have the wards full in uldah. you are either just blind or cannot understand reality.150? Lol where do you get your statistics?
Back when the game was at the beginning all servers had a 1k-5k population. Now that the game is evolving, there is much more. When they launch the ps3 version, we will get an inflow of users that can't run the game because of crappy pcs.
No , we don't need a merger. Maybe in 7-10 years.

+1 for this. Population WILL go down with the subs starting and you're just gonna end up losing a lot more people if people think there's nobody on.
I do agree that the merge should happen after the subs start, but should be done in a very timely manner in a short time after subs so that Square doesn't bleed even more subscribers from people quitting from seeing a desolate server. I'd say they need to do it within a month after the subs start.

I hope se doesn't do their usual "wait until its too late" approach. Hoping they merge before ppl get bored of doing nothing cuz small population and quit.
