Holding mentors accountable?

Being a mentor doesn't mean much sadly since most mentors just leave when a extreme pops up in the roulette and all said duties are fairly easy to unsync to unlock it so most wont have a clue when the duty pops up sync'd (sephirot really only one that keeps his challenging aspect unsync'd to this day).

This is pretty much why I don't use mentor roulette. I wouldn't feel comfortable leading unsynced Ex parties to victory in most cases, often because I never even made an effort to do that content when it was current. I wish they had two separate roulettes or otherwise allowed me to exclude those. I'll gladly lead people to victory in Keeper of the Lake or Titan (Hard) or whatever else, but I barely remember the proper way to do ARR Ex primals other than like Garuda or most of the Warring Triad Ex.

So I'm at a little bit of a loss about something occurring on my server's novice network. I'm a sprout there, and yesterday, there was a sprout who was asking about how to obtain Samurai. I let them know and almost immediately, had a pair of mentors who said that the sprout shouldn't waste their time on the job. The only thing I said to the sprout after that was to give it a try, and if they like it, go ahead and play with the job as long as they want.

The two mentors jumped on my case about being a sprout and not knowing what I was talking about. I wish I had saved the screenshot, but I ended up just logging off for the night. One of the mentors, I reported for outright pedophilia comments made, which I don't think has gone anywhere.

I left after I saw a mentor tell a sprout not to bother with Provoke as its "not helpful until end game".

But the real kicker was a "mentor" in POTD who told everyone she didn't have the level 60 skills (at floor 55), didn't believe the party when we told her the levelling in POTD was different, flat refused to use any other skill aside from the astro cure. She argued for so long about how she didn't have the 60 skills because she wasn't level 60 outside that when we asked for a screenshot of her actions/traits in potd (which clearly shows the skills unlocked) she suddenly went quiet, told us her game was glitched and then quit the run.

Uh huh.

Quite honestly, as soon as I see that crown I know they're gonna be not only the worst player, but also the most ignorant in the group.

The only thing NN is good for is "where do I unlock x" and "what hat matches these shoes".

Joking aside, if someone asks me something, i help. If not, i don't meddle with their gameplay.

I don't wear the crown next to my name when doing DF because of the times I've been outright verbally attacked in parties, before I can even type "Hi." Too many people with bad experiences with mentors see the crown and automatically assume I'm an arrogant *sshole

The mentors are a depressing joke. Most give out false information, tell you what to play and HOW to play it and generally what they said is flat out wrong, that is when they aren't busy arguing with each other. And the best part, I used to be a sprout, I called them out on the false information, I got kicked from the network. I rejoined later, asked why I got kicked. The response was "don't argue with a mentor we know better" even though they were as intelligent as a goldfish and the information being given to people was flat out wrong.

No one holds mentors accountable, no one talks back to them, and they don't listen to anyone because their ego of being a mentor is massive. Honestly, these people need to be banned. Not have mentor status removed, but outright permanently suspend their service accounts as they are extremely toxic to the playerbase.

I've had a lot of people tell me I should rush for the crown and be a mentor. But for what? The mentor crown honestly disgusts me. I will never have that crown next to my name simply because it is disgusting. And it is that way because of the majority of the players.

Thank you very much, but you can keep your insults to yourself. I don't know about your case and we only have your side of the story, but if you acted there the way you act here, i can see why they kicked you.

That said, i am a mentor on Cerberus and i try to help whenever i can, on the network and outside of it. Yes, there are some bad apples in the network, but it's nowhere near the way you describe it here.

I didn't know the sentiment towards the network or mentors is the way people describe it here. But i'm with the few people here that say "If nobody is trying to improve the network because they have heard it's a bad place, it will never improve. So i'll work for that improvement." In the future i'll keep an eye out for the bad apples in there and call them out for it and/or report them.

Is there any proof the NN is "working as intended" on Japanese servers?

I've been watching Tonberry's for the past hour and it's mostly sprouts asking questions and getting helpful answers from mentors. It's been like this for months when ever I've been paying attention to it.

I have yet to personally see a single mentor acting the role. It wouldn't be the first time I find newbies in any Roulette, and it's me explaining the mechanics while the mentor is completely mute (I'm not a mentor, nor do I wish to be).

I think the problem with mentors is the big reward that SE added for them. Instead of wanting to become a mentor to help the community, people simply want to farm the mount. The moment you add such a reward, the point of being a mentor gets severely misplaced >_<

People keep saying this about the mount but the mount isn't connected at all to the novice network. The NN is mostly where I see mentors on their superiority kick, much more so than in instances. I guess its a lot easier to talk crap in a linkshell than when people can see your performance.

Sure, there's bad eggs in the roulettes as well but not nearly as many as in the network. I don't think the mount is the reason the mentor thing is bad - more so that people want the crown, the "I'm better than you" icon. In fact, there was a thread here recently complaining that extreme primals shouldn't be in the mentor roulette because they were too hard.

There was a mentor in a lv 50 dungeon (i am a mentor myself), he was DRK and he didn't activate darkside. I asked twice, even with auto-translation although he chose english language, he didn't activate it. At 2nd boss, we wiped because he didn't get agro from any of the mobs in boss fight and i intentionally didn't heal. I simply asked "are you sleeping?". He said "what me?". I said "you didn't pick any adds and you don't have darkside". After that he activated darkside and picked the adds (barely). Idk what was wrong tbh, but most people don't deserve to be "mentors" in the game. I cannot see this guy giving advices at all for example.

(not talking about rude, toxic players for now).
