What Weapon Should A Blue Mage Use?

I would almost want to refuse to use a gunblade job on principle. Gods those things look awkward and painful to hold and swing. Throwing the balance of a weapon so far off just ruins how effective it can be as a weapon.

That's because they are awkward, they are painful to swing, and they are ridiculously imbalanced. I've worked with a real one, so I know anyone suggesting a gunblade be used as a weapon has no idea just how godawful they are (maybe it's why we keep beating Garlean commanders: their weapons suck).

Scimitars would be awesome...we already have them in game, but they've renamed old weapons in the past to make new ones exclusively for a job.

As a melee weapon enthusiast, it's disconcerting to see many argue against Gun blades and their practicality though they certainly existed through out the ages. Mind you they were never wide spread in the era of their time of inclusion, this was mostly due to limitations of material availability and quality constancy. In a world with magic crystal mediums, great swords the size of people, invisible shields and books as weapons... Surely we can include a Garlean Gun Sword into our armaments.

I'd actually argue that the "Garlean Gun" thing is less a legit weapon and more an aesthetic attribute to all Garlean weapons. I feel like if we were to get Garlean weapons, they'd be weapons for all jobs each with some sort of gun on it.

Also yes, various sorts of melee weapons with firearms attached to them were made, but the other reason why they had limited distribution was because of just how unwieldy they were, especially due to the vast majority of them being incapable of being reloaded if fired (which usually required being close range) and just ending up being less of a weapon and more of an ornament.

I'd rather have Pictomancer in the game. Can still use monster abilities and attacks, but would work better because they just sketch the monster and use their attack. Now the one pictomancer that's in the core games had to see the monster, but saying that we can just draw them from memory wouldn't be a big jump away from the job is supposed to do. Could have rank and file monsters give us our skills at level ups, and job quests we fight boss tier enemies like a Behemoth or "special" variants of the popular monsters (Ahrimans, Cactuars, ect) or such for big attacks.

I just get the feeling that if they tried to get BLM in FFXIV, it'd be so different from what they typically do, that they'd just be Blues in name and dress, and then what's the point?

Of course, the same was said of RDMs and they did them justice, so who knows. In which case, scimitars are their traditional weapons. One did use a whip. One used a...fork. And one type used a gun from the FF game we don't talk about much.

Give a Blue Mage a Whip as his support weapon and a short sword as his main hand weapon, since a Blue Mage needs to deal with Monsters and all that a Whip would make the most sense.

Alternatively I liked the idea of a Monster Crystal.

So the Whip would be the main hand weapon, and the Monster Crystal is the Secondary Weapon or the other way around, also I'm surprised we don't have whips yet.

Truth be told i still very much wish for a simple paired sword look for Blue Mage.



While i myself will always main Dark Knight, i still love the middle eastern look for the class/ job.
