I don't know how bad it is on the US servers by comparison, but we do get these type of bots. Not all the time, but they come in waves and seem pretty common when they're active.

I don't know that you'd be able to farm that much on a trial account. You're capped at 300,000 gil and whatever quests you can access up to that level. No retainers, no way to amass Allagan coins or other 'cashable' items that I can think of.
