I have issues generating (and keeping) in-game income and even I have no issue with it. It's a laziness charge. If I feel particularly lazy and don't feel like going to the retainer, I know it'll cost a slight bit more. I'm okay with that.As far as I'm concerned, the only people who this is an issue for are those who have problems generating in-game income. Anyone like myself who can sit comfortably (nope, I'm not rich either) can easily ignore the fee without any issues. And if it's that big of an issue, take the extra 2 1/2 minutes to walk to the retainer. Easy-peasy.
I just can't fathom anyone's frustration from this move. You get a buy it now feature, you don't have to enter into the Market Wards ever again, and you pay a minimum convenience charge for it. One that gets capped at 4k! Don't want to pay that paltry fee then do things the old fashioned way, walk the Market Wards.I'm incredibly dismayed why the players are being penalized a 5% surcharge in order to actually use this new feature. I was under the impression the entire point was to alleviate the inconvenience of zoning into the wards and playing hide and seek with your seller's npc. Replacing it with a different inconvenience purposefully so is not an improvement.
I'm assuming it's offsetting the seller's tax unto the buyer instead, but will the seller also still be charged their tax in the transaction? The original announcement doesn't cover that.
I know it's not a lot of Gil, and a few players may not emphasize with my disappointment, but it's more of a principle matter. In order to be frugal or if you are starting anew and don't have much funds to spend, that you have to still use the old method which really this implementation should have completely done away with.
I'm also losing faith in the game due to the complete stubborness not to just implement a true functioning auction house. We kept being promised that if the players requested it enough that it shall be, yet a year later after numerous pleas it's still not being done. Just the lipstick on the pig tweaks to the existing wards and trying to call it one.
Sorry for the rant, I usually don't especially on such petty things.
Not only that but why in the world would you want a true functioning auction house? Auctions sell things to the highest bidder. Do you want someone to potentially be able to outbid you on your purchases? Ebay is an auction site; I don't think anyone wants this. Or do you want their Buy It Now feature, you know, kinda like the feature we're getting.
Once 1.20b comes around, other than the blind bidding, we essentially have the same "auction house" they did in FFXI, only we can walk inside of it.
If you cant afford the 4k max surcharge, why are you even buying the item to begin with, you obviously couldnt afford it either

I can understand the need for a gil sink but 5% is annoying. As someone who uses the wards a lot, a flat 250 gil fee would be much nicer. Currently leveling bsm and buying up all the silver ore I can. So if I get a stack of silver ore for 1000g per ore I'll be paying an extra 4000g for just that one stack. That adds up very quickly from 41>50. Especially when you're trying to level the cheapest way possible. Solution? Just walk to the retainer, of course. It was just my crazy impression that this 'missing feature' was being added for everyone to save time. Not just for those that don't mind blowing extra money for a feature that should have been there since day one. Especially since it's double taxation.
250 gil does nothing at all, that's the point -- They're trying to get the economy in order because a quarter of a guildleve would negate a 250 tax, heck just selling off 2 dodoskins would negate that price.
It does save time and and it slowly works towards fixing this mess of an economy -- There's really no problems. It was just my crazy impression that this 'missing feature' was being added for everyone to save time. Solution: Mine your own ore, if you can stand the mind-numbing experience that is lvling a DoH, then lvling a DoL should be easy-peasy.I can understand the need for a gil sink but 5% is annoying. just outta curiosity is it 250 an item or transaction. what if i buy 100 brimstone for 100 each and they cost me 350 cause of tax.I can understand the need for a gil sink but 5% is annoying. lmao at the niche that cry about an at most 4k convenience fee. You really expected SE not too have such a fee added? You lose income just for having your retainer sell items in the wrong ward. Convenience always cost money and there isn't much difference with this.
In other MMOs you pay for putting your items on the AH instead of shouting until you find a buyer.

Wasn't a true AH system officially announced for FFXIV 2.0?
I don't mind the current system being able to buy direct. It's really all we need and a little gil sink in the long run helps the economy so it really is for the better.
