Character Creation Has A Race Problem

Here's the thing, by bringing race into it, you are stoking the fires and making it a war between races. While that might not have been your intention, that IS how it came across, like it or not. Like a great many others have said, had you asked for say more skin colour options for the various races (to balance out dark + light skin tones), I would have backed you 100%. As for the Hyur, I believe the Highlanders have more dark skin options and midlanders have more light skin options. Could be wrong on that though. But either way, balancing them out is something I can get behind. However, saying character creation has a race problem as your title makes it come across as about race.

So, I can back the idea behind it (increasing customisation options), but I can't back the reasoning you gave due to how it has unfolded. Sorry.
