Everything resets again in 4.4, which is likely September. The gear ladder shouldn't be your first reason, it's clearing content you want to do.
it's more that there aren't really any other goals beyond a certain point. There's really not much to earn too with a combat class; it's almost all daily maintenance roulettes done solo queued. Increasingly you get pushed into savage or ex because there's very little to do in the game that you havent already. Eureka really was the only long term goal that served as a substitute and was stil engaging, I think.
It's sometimes a nice thing for players to work towards. Some know they will never get the Diamond gear for example because they don't really like the environment of savage (i.e. stressful etc), but they like gearing up with the next best gear which at the moment would be (Dai-)Ryumyaku.

They don't need it but character progression is kinda the point of playing an MMO.
Fair game. However, if you didnt notice, I stated one of the games flaw. I mean, Ive had my share of fun and currently on break. But the farming and doing every week savage when its not relevant anymore, because everyone is or close to be overgeared by far to do content.
Pretty much this.it's more that there aren't really any other goals beyond a certain point. I can fully understand where you come from. However spamming 24 man raid for upgrades and then once you done it then what? The content players currently do or have done is on farm and mostlikely been overgeard on multiply classes. Like you said, it goes towards a goal and working for it, however grinding gear thats no longer relevant isnt a goal to work towards for, its the simplicity of wanting to just have gear to stand around with until next patch comes out, where last tier will come out and crafted gear will be good until you get new savage/tome gear. It's sometimes a nice thing for players to work towards. Some know they will never get the Diamond gear for example because they don't really like the environment of savage (i.e. stressful etc), but they like gearing up with the next best gear which at the moment would be (Dai-)Ryumyaku.

You have various options, FC assistance, creating your own raid groups, if you really want that. Otherwise tomes and such. If you don't know where to start do research before hand on content and make it clear. IF your just lazy and want others to do so can't help you there. IF your anti social can't help you there either. Need to put some hard work into it like everyone else.I don't even know what I'm doing in this game anymore. Can't get into savage groups, so i can't get the best armor, doing the same trials over and over to try and win a dice rolling contest for subpar armor to try attempt to do higher level content is becoming more pointless as people just up the ilevel gate to allow only those who have already completed the trials/savage content into their parties.

@OP - Sounds like you're stuck in the treadmill and are getting frustrated. You have a few options:
(1) Ignore end game gear progression. It's a hamster wheel that only serves itself. You get better gear to be able to grind to get better gear, ect. This will free you to devote more time to other in-game activities such as...
(2) Crafting and Gathering. It's like a whole other part of the game opens up and allows you to really have some casual fun and also make a ton of gil in the process. The stories for the crafting and gathering classes are also quite good from what I've personally seen thus far.
(3) Socialize more. I'm guilty of not doing this since I have pretty bad anxiety issues so I can understand that it can be harder to get into. If this is also you perhaps try breaking out of your shell just a little bit by just even saying "Hello!" more often to people. Join a social linkshell or two, ect.
(4) If all else fails take a break and play other games. Playing only a single game for a long period of time can get old and stale. Trying to play other games every so often keeps things more fresh and you don't burn out as often or quickly. Even just a small break can help!
