Some people also like doing lower level dungeons. Take Expert dungeons for example, isn't it boring to only have 1-2 dungeons for expert? Imagine if leveling dungeons were just all level 70 ones (assuming everyone's level 70). Sometimes it's fun doing mid level or low level ones.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Clearly you haven't sacrificed enough Lalafells to RNGsus. He is displeased with your lack of obeisance.

and we got put in Sastasha. There was no logical reason for any of us to go into that dungeon specifically, so why that one? Why not the highest that we could all do (which in this case would be Qarn or Brayflox)?
There are two things in play. The content cleared, and the ilevel of the player.

It's entirely possible that any of those characters paid for a jump pot, and didn't actually clear the dungeon content. They might have leveled off PotD, and thus are only now playing it.

But the more likely answer is that someone doesn't have the correct gear, so you got dropped into a dungeon that their ilevel can complete. Usually when you get dropped into the first three dungeons (Satasha, Tam Tara, CopperBell Mines) it's because someone in the party hasn't cleared it for MSQ. When that's not the case, it's because their ilevel (due to no right-hand gear) is around 15.

The remaining option is that someone specifically queued for it. ARR specifically doesn't look at ilevel, only the character level, as all 2.0 leveling content can be cleared without even the relic gear.

For me its always in a dungeon or primal fight that has new player in the group that's not ran it yet.

This is 100% complete rubbish. I've gone as a full premade level60+, everyone with gear of WELL over minimum ilvl, MSQ up to date and we still got Sastasha. I've also been put in those first dungeons with a non premade and everyone well over level 60.

The higher level you are, the bigger pool of dungeons you can get rng put into. I also wish that they would refine it a little more because it does suck trying to learn a new class and never having access to any high level skills since you're always put in ARR dungeons. I can understand it if you queue with duty finder and there legit is someone new but more than often its the same scenario OP has described.

I wish as a premade group especially it would try match you to higher level dungeons.

And if you note from other threads, people say they avoid being put into "hard" queues by removing gear items to lower their ilevel. So the ilevel certainly plays a role in determining what you're going to be dropped into.

That said, what are you really expecting if you do a premade party and then select a roulette? The game doesn't keep statistical analysis on how many times your party has cleared something, only the players individually. So if the algorithm that determines the roulette goes "hey none of these players have played X in a while, lets drop them in there", versus "RNGesus says Satasha for everyone who ques at 1:01pm on a sunday". It's likely not even RNG that decides the roulette, but rather it probably keeps a histogram of dungeons and hands things out based on what hasn't been done when there is no specific selection from a not pre-formed party.

We all complained about this back when the Duty Finder was initially released, because you could end up doing Satasha, Tam Tara and CopperBell, over and over and over again, all day without ever seeing anything else.

Or, you actually have no idea how Squares algorithms work and are assuming, like the rest of us. I don't remember anyone complaining about duty roulette implementation at all, either. Only that people wanted to queue with their friends.

Leveling roulette for me is almost never "random". Its typically the same dungeon 2-4 days in a row, then it switches for another few days, and so on. The past couple days its been stuck on Toto-Rak. That's queueing with an ilvl of about 358. Trials is usually pretty random now, it used to be Ramuh, Thornmarch, or Bismarck 99% of the time.

Ahem, Duty Roulette was introduced in 2.1, December 14th 2013

    https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...7af43f3c43828a
Duty Roulette has been added to the Duty Finder.
You may now register for duties at random from among those you have unlocked. Successful completion will earn you greater rewards than normal. Moreover, a bonus will be awarded once per day for participating in each category. Furthermore, should your role be in short supply, you will be awarded an additional bonus for being an adventurer in need.

People have been complaining about getting things they didn't want since day 1.

If may feel like it's not random, but it is, and if people don't want to get something they don't want from the roulette, then don't run it.
