why would you hack and slash to get to him, he is a primal, he doesnt have protectors guarding him. anyway you did the storyline/quest part. the hard mode is just repeating the battle.
Old MMOs also let you dungeon crawl to reach said instanced battle arena, nowadays dungeon crawling is generally an instance.
You clearly don't pay attention to the storyline -- Primals are summons, therefore they have followers and clearly would prefer to have a type of habitat to be in, like pretty much all summons of FF games that had story to it, e.g Ramuh hanging out at Pinnacle Rock.
i remember the part of the story line when ifrit was summened right in front of me and i didnt hack or slash to get to him, lolOld MMOs also let you dungeon crawl to reach said instanced battle arena, nowadays dungeon crawling is generally an instance.

and i remember in 11 the quest for a subjob was killing a dragon that was instanced and took about 30 seconds. and yes, 11 is an old mmo now.

Maybe they replace the way to get in the primal battle, but why should they remove the entire content? It makes no sense. That's all I wanted to say. "Sorry you can't fight Ifrit since we have version 2.0 now.. but try Odin if you want" :P
Wrong guy, I was supporting the guy who said content is being kept.
Since you bring up FFXI you forgot:i remember the part of the story line when ifrit was summened right in front of me and i didnt hack or slash to get to him,lol

1. There was no part in your subjob quest that told you kill a dragon.
2. That dragon was found in a BCNM arena in an open dungeons right outside of the main cities which was the Rank 3 Mission boss.
3. The arenas in FFXI that were instanced were the BC arenas which is 99% of the time in an open dungeon -- This is how a lot of old MMOs were, the dungeon wasn't instanced but the boss area was.

i guess its similar to how if you choose to teleport to BW, you have to hike to the ath to get to ifrit were you have to run past all the hostile mobs(or hack and slash if you wish)Since you bring up FFXI you forgot:

it's not similar in any fashion really. There is a difference between running past/fighting through 100 Orcs that aggro you in Fort Ghelsba to reach Horlais Peak than having to chocobo past 5 Pus Gnats and 2 Diremites to get to Bowl of Embers.
This game is built on easymode. oh and sand.
