Just to share this anecdote: I recently got Ultima HM in mentor roulette. As scholar. I'd never healed the fight before (I main a tank, but I can only do so many tank-runs in one day) - but previous to Ultima I helped many people with both inprogress and normal dungeon runs through my mentor roulette.
For Ultima however I got the following:
- a warrior who wasnt able to perform the tank-sawp despite it being explained mutliple times and both me and the paladin asking for provoke (with soundeffect!) in groupchat everytime he had to
- a samurai with ilvl 5-30 jewls
- a pull happy paladin who didnt let me finish anything explantions, so I had to give tips while healing, raising and doing mechanics myself
- a new whm who was trying her best, but that best wasnt to much
I hardcore carried that group - we actually got the kill after about 35 minutes and 3 or 4 wipes.
And you know what? People complained how long that took.
I also got no thanks, no commendation.
It was all in all a very frustrating experience - and that was even a sucessful one.
I dont want to be mean or rude and that mentor in question worded it badly, but my advice to anyone during a DF-Ex-Primal would be: Look for a PF-group. Do it unsyched, if you can - or synched if you care to do it for real, but be aware that its not DF-content and no cakewalk.
I feel thats honestly the best advice to give to a new group in Ramuh Ex (or most other Ex-primals).
I remember that it took my static - a team of people that knew each other and was using voice-chat for call-outs - two or three evenings to kill Ramuh Ex back then.
One hour is barely enough most of the time and no matter how helpful you are: the payout is horrible. I got yelled at because I refused to pull in Shiva Ex before explaining all mechanics - not because the group wanted a blind run but because the BLM got impatient.
A lot of people - maybe not the OP - dont realise that Ex-primals arent faceroll-easy content anymore and they dont bring the gear, skill or patience to actually clear them.
And sorry, if we wipe for an hour because the OT doesnt understand how to tank-sawp (despite getting explantions) thats truely a waste of my time. Personally, I'd still give it one or two tries to see if the group is truely hopeless, but explaining a complex fight when people already get mad when you try to explain basic job-mechanics? Or are so impatient to just get in there that they dont even let you finish your explantion - even after you wiped three times already and arent getting anywhere?
No, thanks - my (mentor)-time is better spend running 2 or 3 dungeons that need someone in that time.
Edit: I really wish the game itself would communicate more clearly that Ex-primals arent really DF-content. Just a short pop-up when queuing saying "Hey, please be aware that this is more difficult content than a dungeon. You'll have to work as team and figure out more complicated mechanics. Make sure your gear is up-to-date and you're ready to face a real challenge!"
