Its a metric best ignored because its ultimately meaningless. It is how many accounts have been made for the game, the amount of active subscribers is closer to 250,000, peaking at around 750,000 at most on expansion drops (i.e when the game breaks from it).
Its interesting, the angle the promotion page is going at.
How to Participate
Create a character in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
New players must first purchase the game.
Level up your character to 70.
Complete the main scenario quest "Stormblood."
Players eager to participate may wish to consider purchasing optional items to increase their character level or skip immediately to quests in the Stormblood expansion.

I'm super excited for this crossover, thanks SE and Capcom!
hehe I actually like that, take away the excuse that every event needs to be super low level via mog station XDIts interesting, the angle the promotion page is going at.

Thanks for the link! While skimming the thread, I was about to ask for it when I saw your comment. :>
I am... not familiar with Monster Hunter. >>;;; /Googles/
I really hope it at least stays as long as Garo because otherwise that would make it quite hard for anyone newer.
The MH one notably leaves the year out--so... maybe its not limited time?

I find that very shady. I mean a collab is also there to have people start playing the game, so they do hope that Monster hunter players want to start playing it but they are making it so that they need to go through ARR+HW+SB and be 70 to even take part in this..which means people need to buy the original game and two expansion...at least with Garo it was only having a lvl 60 job without the need to finish ARR and HW. So people could just powerlevel through PVP when they reached 30.Its interesting, the angle the promotion page is going at.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Finally! An event that actually takes place outside of the ARR zones and even seems to be a Trial (since it seems Rathalos is in the first boss arena of Bardam's Mettle).
Monster Hunter World is getting Behemoth (dunno why people are saying King Behemoth. All Behemoth's in FFXIV cast Meteor).
