What, exactly, are they allowed to charge for, in your view? If they changed the game to a free-to-play model, would you be OK with charging for this kind of thing? Or is there some other criteria which decides what they can and can't charge for?

They can charge for whatever they want. Is what I said controversial to you? Is the base game, expansions and a monthly sub fee not enough money to be able to enjoy the full game?

Square Enix thinks (correctly) that they can make more money by selling optional items. To not do so would be illogical from their perspective. Given that, if we consumers convince them that selling optional items is not allowed because they're charging a subscription fee, the only way they'd be able to increase their profits would be to go free-to-play. And that might benefit you or me, but it's going to be at the cost of whales, and I'm not comfortable having a small minority of people subsidizing my game. I'm more than happy to contribute extra money to a game I love, because I can afford it. But if they go free-to-play, I'm cancelling my subscription immediately. So no, I don't think it's obvious that a cash shop is not a good fit for a subscription-based game, nor do I see any reason all content should necessarily be free because you're paying a subscription fee. I may want everything to be free (and who doesn't?) but I see no moral, ethical, legal, or philosophical reason that must be the case.

-A truckload of stuff being shoved on the cash shop on the last months when the game is begging to have meaninful rewards with the recent revamped achievment system.

-The pricing.

-The single account restrictions.

As far as I know of, this entire topic has been and for the most part literally about the orchestrated version of Rise of the White Raven from the Symphonies CD being $2.39 as a single MP3 on Amazon.com and $5.00 on the Mogstation as an in-game scroll. What you've listed has already been discussed before, you're correct on that, but not as much in this singular thread alone by itself.

They just put out a brand new patch last Tuesday and they happened to add a few things again to the Mogstation recently and I realize not a lot of people like the idea of it, but, do you really think anything said is going to change how things are now? I don't know about you, but doing the new content, getting a Tsuku weapon, trying to get her songs, and the mount are meaningful rewards right now even if the revamped achievement system is lackluster. Rewards may not exist there, but they exist in other places. Is it a perfect setup? No, not really, but to say that the game doesn't or at least has been begging for meaningful rewards seems a little silly to me, in my opinion.

Everything you've listed on the latter, I already invest my time in. I raid, dabble in some Savage content, farm for mounts, music, and gear. Again, one song scroll is not going to kill me especially when the MP3 is the better deal anyways.

I've already agreed in the past that the single account restrictions are asinine, but going on a crusade for a song seems a little...exaggerated to me, sorry. Just don't buy it, that's the best statement you can make. Just ignore it and don't buy something you can get for far cheaper and with more benefits involved.

I don't think they're going to change the pricing of one music scroll because a few players on the forums dislike that it's $5.00, which the costs average out towards eating something at a fast food restaurant. If the scroll isn't worth your $5, then don't spend your $5 on it. Show them you value that $5 on other things.

There's actually 3 songs, for $15 in total.

The one being talked about someone simply used for their picture showing the mog station being just over double the cost as the mp3. We're "letting ourselves become offended" because Square's trying to sell us the same thing, only much more heavily restricted, at over double the cost.

Imagine, if you will, a stuffed animal based on... let's just say Byakko because I don't think we have that in game. Let's say that it's $5 to get one ordered (I dunno how much the normal ones are, but let's just say this price.) Now the mog station comes around, and chooses to sell you one. For $12. On a single character.

Now you have 2 options. A stuffed Byakko you are free to bring anywhere you want, or pay over double to having one in game for 1 character.
