But most people haven't complained about space, only the inconvenience of having 5+ inventories that are not conveniently linked.
I can definitely get behind the retainer interface being changed. Players have been asking for this since the relaunch. But hoarding is hoarding. there is no reason (unless you are actively farming/crafting specific items) to really need more than 999 of any item? Im an omni crafter, and i craft all day when I play most days and even then I barely have to go out and farm beyond 999. Even when I scrip farm, or food, or potions.

So yea, hoarding is a thing

I did love it when GW2 changed their inventory system to allow storage of all crafting materials on the character, each material had its own slot. On top of that armour was unlocked for glams based on anything previously received so there was no need to hold onto thing just to glamour them.

I feel that the vast majority of player hoarding is because all crafting is complex and intertwined, and glams.

I agree hoarding can definitely be a thing. I don't have any issues, I have around 70 free inventory slots at the moment, and I have all the mats I need. But I can see running out if you like keeping lots of gear or maybe event items, like Fireworks. The glamour dresser mostly alleviated the former of those problems, but trying to look at it from that perspective. I don't think there is a space problem, but I also don't consider it hoarding to want to keep crafting materials that you can't easily buy, and there are ALOT of those. Especially when SE wants us to go back and reuse things like Cobalt Ore that I haven't needed in 20+ levels. Difference of opinion more than stating an actual problem here.

But the interface fixes and the like are the real issues, as you and I and most others here have agreed.

For the most part, yeah. I think, fundamentally, the hoarding issue is determined by how one looks at an arbitrary item in their inventory. I look at an item and ask "why hang onto this?" while others, such as my girlfriend, instead ask "why not hang onto it?"

Without advocating for my approach, I think that the 'why not hang onto this' perspective simply isn't well-suited to more complex itemization systems - in any game, not just FFXIV. It justifies hanging on to just about everything, from Moko Grass all the way up to BiS equipment. This inevitably results in inventory paralysis. I'm sure many people struggling with inventory in FFXIV struggle in other games, too, for the same reasons. I think there are surely things that SE can do to help remedy the issue (better inventory management and fewer inventory 'buckets' would help, to return to the point of this thread). But it's limited. They can't simplify the crafting system without shredding a lot of the realism behind it (yes, tama-hagane is real stuff, and yes, it does have a similar set of components IRL). They could conceivably introduce more merchants for certain items, but that would knock out entire sections of the Market Board. It's tricky.

Personally, though, I think the inventory restrictions are a good thing. FFXIV is far, far too convenient as-is, and it makes for a shallow experience much of the time. Difficulty is good, tedium is good; they're part of the human condition, and we can't become truly invested in something large like an MMO without them. Those couple of hours spent cleaning out an inventory makes the experience of collecting the next round of items all the more rewarding. Just my two cents, anyway.

I would go the route that the inventory increase + chocobo saddle was not enough, but thanks to the Doman Enclave it has solved much of my issues, especially getting rid of Eureka junk
