    About Yotsuyu:

I think that at least Maxima had believed that he was truly going there to make peace with Doma. Asahi needed Yotsuyu for destroying the plan because she was seen as someone from Doma thanks to her memory loss. Thus her standing there and talking about how she will rule Doma and then turning into a primal can be seen as a break of the contract because she was still seen as part of that country. Thankfully Asahi died and Maxima turned out to be truly someone from the other faction and someone that has a brain and saw that this was a set up to break peace again. In the end Yotsuyu was the most important part in the plan because if she had not turned then Asahi would not have anything that shows a break in contract. So in that way if his plan had gotten through Yotsuyu would have been partly responsible for another war and tension for Doma.

Also I still believe that this was Yotsuyu. I mean Tsuyu with no memories was like a child. Would a child really be able to fool everyone around her and then break out again to kill herself? Would the innocent Tsuyu really be able to act in her old ways? For me this was a sign that Yotsuyu has returned but as the primal shows she has a inner conflict. Because maybe for the first time in her life she (or more Tsuyu) was loved. Maybe that just completely broke her because that would mean that she finally had to face the consequences of her horrible actions. Maybe she cant just tell herself that her behaviour is justified? Thus her trying to kill herself.

I believe that she is quite aware that as soon as anyone sees that her memories are back she would get killed or sent back to Garlemald (and who knows what they would do to her). She was only alive because she had no memories and thus they did not want to judge her. Having them back makes her also able to be jugded and no matter if she behaved childlike for a time or maybe regret it a bit, she still did horrible stuff which would probably end in a death sentence. And with her memories back none of the people in Doma would probably even want her around.

In the end for me this was the best outcome. It may give Hien the motivation to make Doma in a better place (but realistically bad stuff will always happen, that just how it is), Gosetsu will go around and atone for the stuff he did under command and the people are finally able to heal their wounds without fearing that her memories might come back and thus they get punished again. And for Yotsuyu, well it might sound a bit strange but this might have been the best outcome for her too. She may have had a chance to live as Tsuyu but I am not sure if that would have been something forever. Where would she live? Would she be confined to one place her whole life because people would maybe just take their revenge out on her? Or maybe need to stay with guards thanks to the possibility of getting her memories back. Gosetsu is also old and wont always be around to protect her. Tsuyu was her only chance but I am honestly not sure if this was a great life either.

As Yotsuyu herself she would have either be killed or land in prison for the rest of her life where she will have to face the stuff she had done. There was no realistic way that she would have been able to go outside. So her being able to take down these three people and then being death while still at least having an understanding on what she did was probably the perfect way to end her arc. And its also a good way where I can accept the last few patches about her.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

I'm not quite following your logic there - I'm not sure what war has been averted. If you're thinking it's because Asahi's death allowed Maxima to step in and properly complete the peace contract, that probably didn't help much in the end. As I said before, I don't believe the Garleans ever intended to uphold it. (I don't even know if Varis was aware of it or if it's purely Elidibus's work.)

THAT SAID, I think you may be right with a lot of the other things.

There's one moment that I think gets overlooked in light of all that happens afterwards - in Namai, when she starts having flashbacks, cries out in horror that the things she's been remembering are all true, and begs for forgiveness. I think this may be one of the few moments where she shows her true feelings - but also she may realise after this that she has admitted in front of the others that she does remember (not that she's been hiding it before, rather that she didn't understand it yet), and realises that she may have sealed her fate by doing so.

    Asahi / Doman Peace Treaty
Some mulling led me to the conclusion that it was a suicide mission, as well - the genuinely populist Garleans would have told the truth about what happened, undermining the plan. Either the populists would need to be killed, or they would all need to be killed.

It wasn't really enforceable anyway. As I suspected, Asahi wasn't actually on orders or anointed by the Emperor himself - just Elidibus-as-Zenos. It's highly unlikely Varis would have honored that deal since he didn't make it.

    Four Lords
I didn't find the possibility of a beast tribesman being able to become an auspice particularly shocking or important. The real question is how they survive a millennium when their natural lifespan isn't likely to be greater than that of any spoken... though that goes for all the auspices, in my opinion.

I'm hoping that we get to see a
Cid, Gaius and Nero reunion at some point, a lot of tension there!

    Ridorana spoilers
I'm quite happy they tied the Garleans into the Clockwork City of Goug. Basically, I've always kinda disliked the idea that the main reason the Empire are technologically advanced is because of Allagan relics. Obviously the relics helped move the Empire forward, but even before they reverse engineered the relics, and even before Solus learned how to magitek, they come from a technologically advanced society. It just adds an extra layer of appreciation of what the Garleans have built.

He's not "Gaius van Baelsar, Legatus of the XIVth Imperial Legion" anymore - he can't be. At this point he's Gaius Baelsar, the wandering Garlean mercenary (it seems) who hunts Ascians as revenge for taking everything from him in their machinations. (Again, assuming the Shadowhunter is Gaius, which is very likely based on present evidence.)
I thought this, too. He was already on thin ice during 1.0, where Nael and the VIIth were withdrawn from Othard and sent to Eorzea, and the XIVth scarcely charged with more than just babysitting van Darnus. He's been under pressure ever since Silvertear--Cid openly roasts him on all this during the cutscene for the "Alive" quest in 1.0.

Then we get to 2.0, and the XIVth are essentially an afterthought in imperial terms, but Gaius' ambition and desperation drive him to accept Ascian interference, taking extreme measures to meet his old goals and restore his dignity and recognised status in the process. And... then Praetorium happens. He makes one last attempt to bring Cid back into the fold, and tries to lure the WoL in as well, which fails miserably. And then explosions!

So what's left for a man
    • presumed dead
    • from a failure-spiral legion
    • who permanently burned his bridges with a young man he considered a son
      and
    • sank to the level of consorting with giggling Hot Topic couture cultists to get what he wanted
    ?

Running around picking off Ascians, or at least annoying them out of their host bodies, anonymous and without ties until he dies. Sort of a revenge-resignation hybrid. I'm fascinated.

Also, this might just be my eyes playing tricks on me, but the tatters of Shadowhunter's coat really look like Gaius' old regalia, and that bit of armor he's got fixed with a rope around his arm looks a lot like whatever's left of the gauntlet from that side. I'm too interested.

And also very mad that he's attractive, BAHAHAHA

Hopefully my tagging works. edit- YAY IT DO

I thought the same thing! I haven't studied the details but it definitely looks like the same red coat.

Also I feel like I'm missing out on so much character background by not having been here for 1.0.

    (Also also: hello twin.)

Here's the best playlist I've found of 1.0 MSQ cutscenes. It's even got the the 1.0 Hildebrand stuff at the end. The cutscenes do add a lot of context to certain character's motivations.

    Finished!

    Ivalice
Damn all those AoE spamming bosses!

Ahem. Ramza seemingly being possessed by his namesake was interesting, as is the Duma as an object. I shudder to think what it could do in the wrong hands. Other than that... I'm still not particularly engaged, and starting to get a bit irked we're getting more background on blatantly obvious references than information on original concepts (such as Skalla).

I urge everyone to not be deceived by that one actor's arguments (the Thespian, is it?). He's using fallacious arguments known as phantom distinctions, also known as "distinction[s] without [a] difference[s]." Saying things like "Garlemald isn't subjugating the world, it's uniting it!" and "We didn't conquer Dalmasca, we were returning to Ivalice!" is just arguing connotations to frame things more positively. There's no difference in the end result (mass death and suffering).

Finished the Four Lords quest as well.
Stop flailing around on the battlefield, Tataru!

    About MSQ:

If Asahi did not die by her hands, he might have still died on the way back (because Varis cant know if he is on the ship or not) but Alphinaud would not have gone back with them and who knows if Maxima would have survived it. Thus Varis could spread his message about the "savages" needing to be put under their control, thus the factions that wants peace would have lost influence. (And we also dont know how high Maxima stands in this faction) So Varis getting more people on his side might have just created another conflict with Doma, while right now the one that now is in charge of peace is still alive and will be back to Garlemald thus their faction still have a chance.

I am not sure if she completely remembers everything in Namai (as in everything done to the people of Doma) or just that one scene. She still kinda acts way more childlike unlike after what happens with her parents. Also she remembered even more when she met them. (I am also not 100% sure if she says in german that she remembers everything. For me at least that scene was more about Tsuyu realizing that she did something bad and maybe a few scenes to that and apologies for something that she still does not fully understand. (She is shaken up by those memories which kinda implies to me that she is still not fully her, while later she is probably more shaken up by feeling guilty thanks to the positive feelings she got from Gosetsu.) But thats all speculating. Its kinda interesting how you can interpret it in so many different views and I did like the MSQ quite a lot.

I will not be using the spoiler tag for this, because honestly what’s the point of you being in here if you haven’t caught up?

Anyhow, I loved how Yotsuyu’s primal form still kept her outfit in mind. It was awesome to watch how It transformed.

As for Ridodania, I’m disappointed in the lack of Ivalice Moogles, so happy to hear that Viera do exist, and very happy with the Garleans new revealed origin being out of the Clockwork city. It adds more than just Allagan shenanigans to them. Personally I’m not impressed with the Allagans, and find their architecture to be extremely ugly.
