Playing a grossly underpowered job, especially in a role like healing, is not fun.
There's only 3 of us too, so if one feels too weak, you don't have many other options like with DPS.
I just feel like they should fix what they currently have instead of putting a new one in just for the heck of it.

Grossly underpowered, yet it has 700% clear rate for current hardest content in the game compared to AST.

    I'd like a new tank.

As a tank player, I get three options. I wouldn't complain for a fourth. It'd be refreshing, really.

Balance won't ever be perfect, and I'd much rather play a class that feels different in its own way that being told "no" because perfect balance hasn't been achieved.

Variety is the spice of life and such.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that SE should hold off on releasing jobs until they figure out how to fix and/or balance current ones. For example, if we head into the heart of the Garlean Empire next expansion, that would be the perfect opportunity for a Machinist revamp into something that isn't "like Bard, but clunkier".

Its not a question of balance, its a question of options and expanding the experience of each role, if we are always with the excuses of player population or Game balance then all the jobs already released was a mistake And se should stay with the original roster.
Dps have 9 dps slip on 3 types of dps, healers and tanks Who represent the 50%, well right now less have only 6 Jobs 3 on each role, Next expansión should be healer and tank to be 8 Jobs 4 each against 9 dps.

However SCH offers around 600 raid DPS and AST 600 or more depending on RNG. These are not small differences. Not to say they're as dramatic as, say, 3.4 But this is definitely something that needs to be looked at.
If you were to total AST'S personal dps+raid dps it would only total about 250 more AT MOST. The lower in skill you get, and there's no shame in not being a 99% raider, the lower this gap becomes. Not to mention that requires godlike balance luck. The difference between DRG and NIN, the two best dps jobs at the moment, is more than that.

I don't really mind if they don't add a new healer/tank class. I like that currently as a healer, you can pretty much go as whatever you want and you will be accepted. Any combination (except doubling up) is considered really effective because of how the healers are balanced. I'm just worried if they add a new one that some healer class will get left out and people won't want that class to join them. Probably the same with tanks. Which is really bad because that could potentially put a large number of healers/tanks who ONLY like one class of the ones available out of playing until the meta shifts.

That said, if they add a new tank/healer, I'd be interested to see how it plays and how the balance is kept.

    But more than jobs...I'm just hoping they don't add anymore SKILLS. Around 25 buttons is more than enough to be pressing and keeping track of, if they keep adding more I don't know if I can continue playing well. @___@;

Me too. I wondered about starting a topic on that the other day, actually. There are some classes I feel like I "got" at Lv50 - they felt complete and I could play them well at that level - but as I get higher up there are just so many extra things to keep a watch on and remember to press at irregular intervals.

I don't think using balance is a fair reason for tanks and healers to not have new jobs. That's actually kind of slap in the face to people who enjoy those roles. "Hey you guys don't need any new jobs because they are harder to balance, but we are going to keep giving DPS more jobs even though they are not balanced". People who play these roles deserve new things too and I don't think it's fair for them to be left out for two expansions.

The problem with balance for healers and tanks is because there are three jobs fighting for two slots. This makes the third one out feel more underpowered than it really is. You don't see this as much with DPS because you have more options to choose from. I feel like you would have less balance issue if they increased the options because you wouldn't automatically have a third man out.

I get the hyperbole, but there are only 9 DPS classes. However, let's break something down quickly, because there's something unique to DPS that tanks and healers don't share: sub-roles. These are roles that the game itself splits DPS into. There are caster DPS, ranged DPS (for the purposes of this post I'll call them snipers to differentiate them from casters), and melee DPS. Somebody who likes melee DPS won't necessarily like ranged DPS, so adding MCH in Heavensward did nothing for them, even though a DPS was added for instance.

With that in mind, let's look at all of the roles, we have:
    3 Tanks
    3 Healers
    4 Melee DPS
    3 Caster DPS
    2 Sniper DPS

Laid out like this, you have just as much flavor to pick from if you wanted to be a healer or a caster (bonus points because SCH/SMN level together). You have less flavor to pick from if you wanted to play a ranged DPS instead of a tank. You have more flavor than anything to pick from if you wanted to go melee.

Of course, you can ask why tanking or healing has no sub-roles like DPS do. Honestly, that's a very good question, but if we look at it from the perspective this game seems to give us, I would posit that's because in FFXIV, tanks and healers are themselves sub-roles of DPS. Hear me out, and mind I speak only within the confines of FFXIV and the paradigms it has set up for itself.

Melee are DPS with specializations of higher natural damage, but with the necessity of being in range of the boss and working around mechanics to remain in range of attack.

Caster DPS are DPS with specialization of high natural damage, with the necessity that they have to remain still while casting, their challenge being finding safe places to stand while mechanics are going off where they can plant down and do damage.

Sniper DPS are DPS with specialization of support; they do less damage than Casters and Melee, but in return they have virtually unrestrained mobility and the ability to support the party through damage buffs and resource management skills.

Tanks are DPS with specialization of aggro manipulation and damage mitigation. In return for doing less damage, they keep the boss off of their squishier counterparts and have less complex rotations.

Healers are DPS with specialization of, well, healing. In return for their ability to restore their party's HP, they do less damage, however have arguably the simplest rotations in the game (though these are also intentional so the healer can perform its primary role of healing).

I can see them working toward getting every role up to 4 choices in the future expansions.
