The Cascadier Uniform had male and female variants, and was the first one you unlocked back in the day. The later sets were unisex.

Additionally, outside of the veteran rewards, you had a few times that different outfits were added for both sexes. Yuna and Tidus, and Snow and Lightning come to mind as thoughts where this happened. I won't argue that they couldn't have made a Tifa or Aeris set for female characters instead of giving them Cloud, and a Rinoa instead of Squall, but the thing is, female characters weren't locked out, and the outfits still look appropriate on female character models. Those who have male models simply want options as well.

I support the sentiment of still keep some sets gender locked, and just give different sets for each, or more items that change their model based off what sex the character is. The Foestriker's set altered slightly for male and female models, and I think that was good enough.

The issue is about equality. We live in a society where it's aceptable for women to wear pants but not for men to wear skirts; I personally don't like this part of our culture, it's simply not fair.

But this is a game, a game about a fantasy world, with its own culture and behaviors, made by a company who likes to satisfy their clients. Why does this game should give certain characters more options than others? Why a player should feel like a second class citizen just because they picked a character race or gender that can't use as much gear than others?

So, if the developers make a Samurai armor, both genders should be able to wear it. If they make one summer set, then both for males and females. If they make a Maid outfit for females, then make a Butler outfit for males, and if they decide that female characters can wear such Butler outfit, then it would be fair that males can wear the Maid outfit.

Look at the bunny outfit. It's female only, and there was no male counterpart, so many male players felt this was unfair. Now, if SE decides to just adjust the bunny suit to fit male characters (like they did) or they made a gearset that looks like the bunny outfit but more manly (pants instead of fishnets, for example) that's their decision about what would be aceptable for males to wear, but either choice is ok because the devs are giving both characters the same amount of choices.

In the case of the topic, the new lv1 crafting gear is a cute dress that clearly was made for females in mind. It looks too feminine, and it's, unfortunately exclusive for females. This is an injustice because there is no male counterpart. It's not about having the same dress (I wouldn't mind, tho), but about having a lv1 gear set for males.

BTW: While I understand your preferences about what males are allowed to wear or not, but Square Enix (and in some extension the Final Fantasy franchise as a whole) has been very open to how their male characters can wear. It's a fantasy world after all. From extravagant clothes like Keftka, Kuja or Seymour; to actual gear made for this game, like subligars, longkilts, coats, robes thongs and even skirts. In other words, this franchise is know for being very open about men's fashion and if you keep playing these games you may feel uncomfortable, I may suggest a more "manly" MMO, like The Elder Scrolls Online.

As someone who was overjoyed when they said they were going to release the bunny outfit and got it as soon as it was available, and as someone who is an avid treasure hunter, I don't see what the fuss is about.

I totally get the desire for equality, expression and stuff like that, but I feel like this thread is misguided. For one, the dress doesnt even look that good on girl characters, and there's a bunch of other threads complaining about how junky the set is in general. I feel like there's way better items male characters could be getting on both the masculine and androgynous/feminine side than this dress.

It's not that we necessarily want the dress, it's that they added a female only item and didn't add a male (or even unisex one). if they can only add one item a patch then it really needs to be unisex.

Though it will be interesting to see the reaction when a Male only Hien or Gortesu item is added to the mog station.

Fair enough, but they did say that they'd add our equivalent pretty soon after, and considering how many sets I do like in this patch such as the healer/ninja sets from the new dungeon, I am quite content with waiting my turn, especially since the new uznair dress doesn't even look that great anyway.

Edit: In fact, sometimes guys even get the better equivalent!

For example: In 4.1 girls got a super generic dress while guys got a really nice long sleeved shirt.(the thavnairian wool pieces)

I'm not really expecting us to get a turn to be honest, and I thought that dress was one of the nicer dresses they'd done so far. I'm glad your liking the jumper though

Whether or not you or I or anyone like the item is irrelevant. The issue is that female characters -yet again- got another new thing, while male characters-yet again- got nothing. This is a pattern that has been going on for years now, and people are understandably upset - loyal players have left the game over it, even! This wouldn't be a big deal if it were a one-off thing, but it's not, and letting it go back when we thought it was a one-off thing with the spring/sailor sets is how it got to be this bad in the first place, so we can't afford to let it go anymore.

I'm not personally crazy about the set as-is, and would probably prefer something more masculine be made as an equivalent. However, I would also be fine with SE doing a straight 1:1 unlock of the item, as they've previously done for male sets such as the Thavnairian bolero and Sailor set. Regardless of personal preferences, the latter would ultimately be the best and fairest solution, since it would result in giving everyone the same options rather than arbitrarily locking options based on a single cosmetic choice.

    Edit:

Oh, you mean when they gave female characters a complete outfit while male characters got half of one? Again (and the fact that this has happened multiple times now should really speak for itself)?

What? In 4.1 guys and girls got EXACTLY the same amount of glamour pieces from uznair, one chestpiece for guys, one chestpiece for girls, and one unisex chestpiece that had a unique look for M and F. You're making stuff up now.

A dress is a compete outfit. A shirt is not.

Another thing that wouldn't be an issue if they didn't make a habit of shortchanging male characters.
