If I wanted to do fetch quests, I have plenty of little ! markers to pick up. Forcing you to progress through one to unlock the 24-man is going to put a lot of people off, especially since opinions remain divisive on content gating to begin with.
No one's forcing you to do the quests. Don't need to the raid if you don't want too.
Funny how people assume they speak for everyone when they don't.

This is typical of Final Fantasy games..always has been.

Quests to unlock quests to further the plot.

If you havn't figured it out by now....well the rest is obvious.

I found it odd when he says his dumb poem at the start and you reply with the option that's something like "...says the man sitting around on an airship" it cancels the quest and you have to walk over to pick it up again. I've picked options that said no pretty unambiguously in the past and can't remember that happening before, and this didn't even seem like that obvious of a "No" option, so I'm not sure why it abandons the quest when you pick it.

Yeah ill give you that....it was weird...but I went back and picked the other option and it moved forward. Prob missed something in the plot.

If you want to do the raid, you are in fact forced to do the quests. This quest even goes out of its way to give you a dialog option to refuse, which sets you back outside and doesn't let you progress.

"The raid is optional content!" is not an argument. Everything that isn't the MSQ is optional content. That's not an excuse to point and laugh at the player at the nonsense you make them do before getting to the content they're paying for.

Quests to unlock quests to further the plot.
What plot? No plot was furthered by this. If you deleted this quest from the game completely, the Lighthouse plot wouldn't change in any way whatsoever. It's just pointless filler.

    Get over it...seriously.
Why would you come into a thread specifically about that quest and then tell people to get over it? That adds nothing to the discussion.

I mean, if people complaining about it bothers you, the thread is optional content.

*checks off "Forums complaining about 24-man quest"*

As soon as we were sent on this quest for wine I was like "oh gee, I know where we are going", and yes we go revisit the same NPC's from the last time we had to fetch wine. Knowing that this was the one quest that the people on the forums complained about in the MSQ for being stupid filler before I knew what was going to happen.

Anyway, very expensive and rare wine... given to person who doesn't appreciate it, twice. I was just rolling my eyes at that.

It’s not about not wanting to do the raid; it’s about pointless filler quests and not wanting to do them, but rather do something related to the actual storyline or plot (like the raid, not fetching wine for people a la Company of Heroes). I take it you’ve never read the myriad of complaints about the Company of Heroes storyline in ARR, or the 2.x/Seventh Astral Era quest chains, which were 90% filler; people don’t like unnecessary filler quest chains. The quests regarding Dramaturge and the wine were completely pointless to the Ivalice story. I haven’t seen anyone say they actually enjoyed them, or that they were necessary to progress.

Funny how you’re assuming you’re speaking for more than just yourself as well. Which, with you second comment, you are.

People tend to prefer quests that ACTUALLY further the plot, not go off on unrelated tangents and side-stories with little to no development/point to them.

And re: your last comment: still being as pleasant as always, I see. And nice edit.

I have no complaints about adding more story to the questline. I want that. But I want more story related to the questline, not a random fetch quest that even starts with the NPC noting in a very meta-eque way that "I'm the fetch person".

I would have had no problems if that quest had started the side stuff on board the Prima Vista, but to throw it into the middle of the Ridorana questline was just... jarring and annoying.

Honestly I may be the minority but I like the questline. It reminds us that we arent too good to do small fetch quests.

Even though we are well known it reminds me of Hein how he isnt one to just send his subjects to do work rather he goes personally.

However if they are going to continue this fetch quest route in the future they do need to be a bit more engaging.

Quests pertaining to the plot I have little qualm over. What, pray tell, did fetching wine have to do with Ivalice? If I want to do the raid, which is actual battle content, I am forced to partake in a pointless fetch quest because it gates Ridorana behind it.

Final Fantasy XIV isn't a typical FF game. You cannot apply the same components of a single player game to a MMO. Notice how the abundance of fetch quests died off from Heavensward onward? It should be obvious. People complained—2.1 to 2.3 being cited as among the worst series of quests the entire game offered. Suppose that "typical Final Fantasy" criteria didn't apply, hmm?

I would also like to point I specifically said "divisive" so as not to speak for anyone else but simply acknowledge plenty do dislike content gating. Ironically, you're taking the "speak for everyone" approach by telling people to "get over it."

To be honest, at this point I feel they are just doing this to mock the player. If you talk to the NPCs afterward two of them fully acknowledge the stupidity of the quest, so the writers/desginers know exactly what they're doing. They did it in HeavenWard too, and it was funny the first time. But at this point I think it just shows the lack of respect toward the players, I wouldn't be surprise if there are some Devs grinning "the players complains so much about this so we just gonna give them exactly what they hate", and they probably think they're being cheeky. But like I said, it's something you can do once, because after the first time it's downright annoying and show a lack of respect.

And they're doing it alot, if you trace back Alisses mentions it a lot, together with other NPC like Rowena ...etc... Again, the dev might think they're being clever having these NPCs breaking the 4th wall, but it only works if it's done sparingly, or ideally, once or twice. The frequency they're doing it make it feel they're mocking the players ... on a regular basic.
