It wasn't even that bad, and it added some decent lore tidbits. Though the npc was a jerk at the end lol.

Fetch quests never bothered me too terribly much (unless I'm being asked to fetch something that's sitting a literal few feet away from the person asking). I always thought one of the endearing qualities of the Warrior of Light is that they'll willingly go and perform these menial tasks for people in spite of their impressive resume. No matter what, we're still Adventurers first and foremost. Actually, now that I think on it it might be a good plot point to have the Warrior of Light get a tad bigheaded and self-important only for Tataru to suplex you back to your senses.
Also this.
SE was on the right track with this, but they just didn't do the thing properly so I fixed it for them. You're welcome, SE.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

This particular fetch quest was clearly poking fun at the playerbase. Talking to other NPCs reveals that Alma and Jenomis are mortified that one of their troupe is sending the friggin' Warrior of Light to fetch a bottle of wine (and promise to discipline him later, not that we see it). The Journal notes that we were sent to fetch... rather ACQUIRE a bottle of wine. Speaking with the vintner, it's revealed that we're willing to pay any price for that stupid bottle.
The whole thing is clearly a direct ribbing based on players' distaste for fetch quests, poking at the fourth wall to a degree we haven't seen since the DRK job quests. I was modestly amused.

Admittedly, I skip this sequence of quests because I utterly despise the Company of Heroes arc and it basically pulls from that. I may go back on another character and see how I feel about it, or watch via youtube. Regardless, I mostly agree with Tridus. If I wanted to do fetch quests, I have plenty of little ! markers to pick up. Forcing you to progress through one to unlock the 24-man is going to put a lot of people off, especially since opinions remain divisive on content gating to begin with.
it's not the fetch quest, it's that we needed to cheat the most expensive wine in the realm out of Gegeru, who hasn't really hurt us and has aided us some, for some random who goes and wastes it on a date with his wife. It's aggressively pointless and he even insults us at the start of it. The namazu quest is a better example of poking fun at our tendency to help, and even then its a small bit annoying.
It is tired and old at this point but that's the game we signed up for (and pay for). I don't mind the time spent running from point A to point B. I'm not that amused it's usually for petty reasons but this classic MMO filler is not going anywhere. At least we can skip cutscenes.
I don't mind some added lore, but we shouldn't have been turned into an errand boy, because some guy wants to impress his wife for their anniversary. It's bad enough that I'm getting vexed, because I have to deal with Ramza's ****ty attitude. And while everyone is off, doing something important, I travel an entire continent for booze. It didn't improve my mood. It couldn't have been a filler quest, that makes us contribute in some way, so we can find the Lighthouse? No, it had to be something completely irrelevant.

That certainly didn't help. Like, why are we cheating that guy? He didn't do anything wrong, and we're screwing him over to help some other guy who is too lazy to get his own wine to impress his wife?it's not the fetch quest, it's that we needed to cheat the most expensive wine in the realm out of Gegeru, who hasn't really hurt us and has aided us some, for some random who goes and wastes it on a date with his wife. The other NPCs reactions were cute, yeah. But then the rest of the quest is just garbage. We get sent on a pointless errand unrelated to the actual storyline they wanted to add to, and drawn from the absolute worst part of the ARR MSQ.This particular fetch quest was clearly poking fun at the playerbase. Then we get insulted by one NPC, sent to another, who sends us to another, to get an empty bottle, to have another NPC just show up out of nowhere to fake the wine so we can screw over another NPC that didn't deserve it, all so the first one can impress his wife?
I mean, I've seen Twilight fan fiction that was better written. Maybe it started poking fun at the player base, but it ended up more like actively laughing at the player going "ha, look at the stupid crap we make you do before you can get to the fun!"
Launch day of an Alliance raid looks like that pretty often. Hashmal was a fiasco early on, lol. I cleared it on the first try with a few wipes, and can't complain about anybody I ran into except the guy who kept spamming vote abandon.

It's not like I don't have a sense of humor. The Dark Knight Quest line as mentioned above and the Namazu quest were delightful. I laughed and had my fun. But the Wine Fetch quest felt like a giant middle finger. And again, it didn't help that it was part of a Quest line, that made me want to smother Ramza with a Pillow.
You didn't screw him over, really. He's satisfied and got his drink, and he's going to turn around and do the same thing to some other rich schmuck by refilling the bottle, as he boasted.
