    The Story

For awhile now I've been complaining/discussing things like EXP, plv , the journey, and all things that while playing the game you realize first while actually playing the game. However upon watching youtube videos on various cut-scenes from pasts final fantasies I've come to realize what I think is the most lacking, the story. In every final fantasy I have ever played, especially so in XI, after progressing in the quest line you gained this sense of "I want to see more!". This game lacks that, in all honesty I can barely recall the last real mission in which I've done and the story seems way too scattered.. The only focal point I see as of yet are the garleans, and even that isn't very compelling. All i'm saying is that the story could use a few touch ups, as to me the characters seem both lacking and non-inspiring, and the quests themselves are generally boring and require way too much walking for a mediocre cut-scene at the end of it all.. Granted I know we are getting a brand new story come 2.0 but still, I think I would enjoy the in-between time a lot more if I had more cliffhangers.

in the end the stories get you right from the beginning, and make you want more, it compels you to proceed within the game. I can't say I've ever had that feeling in this game, I think that is the final fantasy feel it lacks, character development, and an enveloping story.

WotG wasn't very good, to be honest. And FFVIII was terribad. That story was easily one of the worst, if not the worst, in the franchise. A forced love story and convoluted for the sake of being convoluted. The first disc of FF8 was fantastic, and then it went downhill fast.

CoP was pretty good, but I'd argue that ToAU has a better storyline.

FFXIV's story is fine, it just needs to be spread out better, I guess. Also lay off cliffhangers. Either make the stories episodic or something, I dunno. I remember all of the missions just fine, aside from the Lv42 quest.

I just cited these three, and you know it varies from person to person, I liked RoZ personally, but in general I find the story is way to scattered atm, think about it at first we had the slew of main city quests now it's like grand company quests are taking that spotlight leaving the once main characters (thanacred etc) to be but weird messengers you see once or twice. Idk I just don't see much of a solid plot forming, aside from the epic battle that happens in most video games, but again no major characters that you can attach to minus the generals, but in most games you never used major figures like themselves as the main characters, if you catch my drift. Like in WoTg there was lillisette.

    Who are you?

    Gath is displeaed with WotG.

Gath Loved RoZ, CoP, and ToAU. Gath liked RoZ because it introduced the FFXI that we started to love from the mass of fail it was prior to the expansions release.

The whole point i'm trying to get across is that if you take XIV's story in comparison to most of stories of past Final Fantasies, you seem a bit disappointed thus far, not to say there isn't hope for 2.0.

I was dissappointed with FFXI before they put out their first expansion. It was bland like ours is right now. We are actually getting updates to this version of the game to improve the story. I bet that when an expansion comes out it will blow our minds. I expect an expansion to have been started under the 2.0 version of the game and think it would come out about 4-5 months after 2.0.

See I never had that disappointment as I joined right when RoZ came out.. maybe thats what I should have done for this game since they seem to be headed down the same road lol,, kidding, I'm glad I'm sticking it through, i'm just waiting for more things to do.

I don't understand why people hate WotG. But say they like CoP.

CoP was about as bland as you could get, there was no interesting cutscenes. The end was not even worth the effort execpt for the rings.

WotG on the other hand, had cutscenes, were you the player kicked major ass. Granted I never finished WotG but the story was FAAAARRRRR superior to CoP.

What did you do in CoP, get you butt kicked 99.9% of the time excluding the scene where you glow, but that was so lame.

CoP executed missions poorly, but the story was really well done, and it felt like you got something done after it was over. It brought over a lot of cool locations like Movalopolis(sp?) and Promyvion. WotG was pretty much the same locations but different theme. Also the story really wasn't that good.

    But opinions.

I never understood the love for CoP story. To me, it had far too many sub branches of stories that never ultimately had anything to do what so ever to the conclusion of the story and many of the branches simply were never resolved at all.

I don't mind lots of little tales that crop of in the midst of gameplay, but there's always a special admiration if the creators are able to weave it back together into some sort of significance. The sort of "ah-hah!" moment when you realize that all those little things were quite intentional and mean something.

I get turned off more and more by Final Fantasy franchise because the story telling is becoming weak. Maybe it's a cultural thing or poor translation, but most the time the game just becomes complicated and weird. If people need to read and write essays to try to explain what it is you just played, you're doing it wrong.

But anyhow, I'm going off on a rant at this point haha. What I really feel is sort of lacking at the moment in the main story of XIV is a central cast of characters to follow around. XI did well by having a few iconic npc's to mingle about with. Most everyone will always remember the antics of Lion or Prische, but not much yet can be said for XIV.
The main story thus far wasn't really designed for that but hopefully 2.0 will have more mascot characters.
