(Also I'm not certain that the average person is aware of the Ascians or their 'true god', to be able to preach of a God beyond it? But I could be wrong there.)
My issue with this is that Hydaelyn, the "mother Goddess", is essentially Earth itself. This is incredibly pagan and "Wiccaish". From what I gather, Wiccans worship Mother Earth.
