i think they messed up using races from FF11. when they give FF a number it should be completely new. every other number game has been. the races from 11 should have been used in FF11-2, which we have been told this is not. but its too late for that now.

no i don't think they should use races from other FF games no viera, no ronso. no Burmecian. as much as i like them. they have had there time and should only come up in un-numbered games. leave new numbered FF games to have new races

It would be nice if they added some races to balance out the popularity of mi'qote and lalafells. Viera would be ideal, but they are exclusive to Ivalice FF based stories, so I don't think they'll make their way to Eorzea.

I'm not sure how I feel about the dragon kin when they've mentioned it... it feels like it might turn up as another unpopular race like the roegadyns. We'll see when it comes out.

What I would really love to see though is to have them add more lore that's integrated into the game about the cultures of the existing races.

For example my dunefolk lalafell culture, according to the official ffxiv site, sounds fascinating. They live in houses affixed to large beast. This makes it sound like they are nomads living on top of mammoths, but you don't even see this in game, nor hear about it. In fact it feels like all the races are just assimilated into the city-state's culture.

But everyone having a human in every FF is ok?

Don't most mmo sequels have the same races?

true FF do recycle alot of stuff. and they do still make it fresh, but races aren't one of em. my all time fav race of the series is Red XII which is an unnamed race. but it has never made it into any of numbered FFs that came after its not in 8,9,10,11,12,13 or 14, the ronso great race, made it into FF 10 and FF 10-2 sequel. but not in 11,12,13 or 14, just saying going on previous form 14 should have had its own races and not 11s. seems like they were lazy to me

Tbh I'd rather the 11 names over this crap. However on a side note galka/rogyden (sp?). Are totally different.

But while people are comparing FF races, most ffs haves like 2-3, and they are pretty much the similar to another in a different series.

Just speculation, but I think that there's two possible reasons for that fact. One being the majority of the Dunesfolk eventually settled down in what has now become Ul'dah. The second being that some settled down and founded Ul'dah, while the rest still roam the dunes south of Ul'dah. Thanalan is more rocky and the terrain seems like it would be rough for large beasts to move around in.

Would make more sense for them to be in the massive dunes south of Ul'dah.

Either way, more lore on the races would be nice.

If they do add new races, I'd prefer for them to be original and congruent to Eorzea. The Ivalice races are cool and all, but they're better suited for Ivalice.

I really hope they don't add a dragon race. They're so overused.
