My time in game has been sporadic the last few weeks, but tonight I took my level... 30-something Dragoon into Cutter's Cry. Everyone I think had sprouts and/or said they were new. I offered a few brief tips, they cleared like seasoned vets. No deaths, no wipes, just a steady pace and a great run. I'm really liking doing the ARR stuff over and over taking the various dps classes to 50. Helps to learn the fights much better while getting perspective and confidence. If I can get them all to 50 I might try taking them through Heavensward if the combos and so on don't get too complex. Hope your runs are all going well.

A quick note to everyone who took my "tanks please use countdowns" post as a serious thing - oh my god can you people take a step back and see humor? I'm going to share the story that inspired it.

Queue into o5n, gate drops and the WAR pulls. I'm flailing and behind. I burn through what I think is the best opener to do with the enemy already engaged with my boyfriend talking to me at the same time.

I don't know what happened exactly, maybe I got lucky with a few crits and DHs. Maybe the tank was super undergeared. Before I knew it I was eating a Doom Strike though. I died to it.

I then said in party chat "I guess I should have used Diversion o.o" and as we were hopping down from killing the chimney the WAR said "I should have done a countdown, srry "

So like... chill? All of you? It's a joke in a thread people come to for rants and lols, I thought it was a funnier way to express the situation than a cut and dry rundown. I am honestly shocked that so many people were so butthurt and serious over it. Most I can ignore because I get that text has no tone or inflection and maybe you have had some bad experiences with dps not using Diversion in the past. A specific note to someone extra extra for no good reason though -

Agreed...not to mention the holier than thou attitude on "dps stats". Which I find is completely unrelated and totally "convenient" to suit argumentation.

You are literally agreeing with one reply from a person who misunderstood one of my posts (Kallistra, the person you quoted) and then relating it to an entirely different discussion where I correct specific statements made by Makeda with real world facts and numbers.

If you don't like the facts and statistics surrounding gameplay perhaps the forums of a game where that data is routinely collected and available to the playerbase isn't the best place for you? You're likely going to see numbers and math disproving unproven, feelings-based claims like this a lot more here. Calling my attitude "holier than thou" because facts don't care about your feelings is either shortsighted, delusional, dumb or another bad joke that no one in this thread is understanding. No matter which one it is the end result is nothing special.

The fact that you even know or bother to parse the damage of tanks and healers actually makes my point.

Exact numbers though, are meaningless. That's why I gave such a wide and arbitrary range... The excessive focus this game and it's community have on tank and healer DPS however is meaningful. It is exactly what drives all these stories of tanks in DPS stance - they've been trained to focus on their DPS over all else... so they do... to frequently bad result.

Your numbers actually point out how wrong the community is for this focus. If those are the numbers they actually turn out... then it is fully wrong to be trying to get tanks and healers to ever go into the DPS stances / rotations. The gain for it is just meaningless.

I can't parse sadly - all ps4 here. If only it were an option for me. If I could parse (or for anyone who can) your idea of 'bothering to parse tanks and healers' as if there was a choice shows how uneducated you are on the subject - you parse your entire party. The only way you get a parse with no tanks or healers in it is with a party comprised entirely of dps.

I'm going to be honest - once you said "exact numbers are meaningless" you lost this argument. You posted about how tanks and healers are held to impossibly high standards of performance. I prooved those claims wrong with actual numbers surrounding the dps output of several classes. What you're saying is that numbers have no bearing on the discussion but your entire point was that the numbers tanks and healers were expected to hit were too high. So which is it? Are the numbers too high or are numbers irrelevant to the discussion at hand? Either way your point crumbles at it's base.

But let's be honest - you knew you didn't have a leg to stand on. You're relying on righteous indignation at this point. That and a lot of bold font. You have no point, only more complaints. You have nothing to add to a discussion but some amorphous bitterness... at what? Did raiders kick your puppy? Did someone ask you to cast Holy on WHM more? Your strawman shows what you're angry at.

Let me be extremely clear - if what you were saying was true I would either not be playing this game or I would be in the trenches with you fighting against the oppressive tide of t o x i c e l i t i s m sweeping through Eorzea. I certainly wouldn't be finally getting into Savage for the first time, learning from really great people who get called 'elitists' on these very forums and are actually some of the most kind, patient people I've met.

The raider culture that you say is out there would be awful... if it existed in any real numbers. It doesn't. It's all fake. There is no pressure for unattainable numbers, only encouragement to try to keep improving. I hope you keep trying to get better too.

And stop with the dramatic strawmen. They aren't helping anyone.

You know what grinds my gear? Mind games and condescending attitude. Doesn't matter when or where, never assume anything unless you know all the facts.

We were moving to Poly after kicking Hazmat back to his lamp. The angry Bulbasaur puppies were pulled along the way. Not only did i tank them, i grabbed every single one that were pulled by new players joining the raid.

As we all know very well by now, these puppies have a mile long cone aoe and they also fixate randomly regardless who has threat.

So as i was salvaging these random pulls while also trying to spawn Poly, here comes Mr AFK Righteous whispering me knowing "What i'm up to" and threatening me with a (gasp) report! Oh no! Whatever right. As if i can control how these mobs act outside of my tools. But oh no, he was quite sure i was up to dastardly mischiefs on purpose. After all he had been keeping an eye on me (seriously)

What follows is a 15 minute barrage of nonsense but the following line really blew my fuse "i know your kind of gamers". No, no you don't. You don't know me, or anyone else in the raid or even people you know. You can never truly tell what someone is like, never.

Never assume anything. When i say "take your head out of your ass" it means watch and think before you act. I did say that.

In case you read this, while you were afk blabbing your nonsense, i was doing something no one else was doing: trying to save your asses.

I'm glad it was a joke, but you can't really blame me for misunderstanding. Nothing in your original post really implied at any point that it was a joke. People have made "dear <role>" posts before and been completely serious. Situations similar to that have happened to people, been posted about, and been completely serious. So I took your post at face value.

Rereading your post, I still don't find the humor in it. You painted someone you don't know, someone who--according to you now--was actually a decent person in a situation where he could have flown off the handle, as a complete jerk because it was... "funny"? Maybe I just have a really dry sense of humor, but that really doesn't make your original post look any better.

We just got into an expert roulette and the MNK was legit single targeting on packs of 7+ for the entire duration.

Rockbreaker is the aoe, alone with 2 other ones. so he was just being lazy. Unless he was having massive tp issues, but you kindof have to aoe for that to happen so ... yeah. go sue em. Is all i can say.

I think MNKs are inherently allergic to AoE skills. The majority of the time I'm partied with a monk, they don't use any AoEs(even the oGCD one). I think the ones that do use AoE when appropriate have a lot of epi-pens in their inventory.

I actually never saw so much as a dent in the TP. The other DPS was goading the tank because he was actually using AoE. I mean, yeah, I get maybe not knowing at lower levels. It's just.. baffling, seeing that in endgame dungeons.

Yeah.. as a monk main. - who always aoe cause I don't like big pulls - -- my logic is to kill as fast as possible cause huge pulls sucks as a monk when 3 of the mobs are a million feet tall and a million pounds fat so the hit box is just stupid.-- So yes as a monk main.. that monk needs to be sued. Go take him to court. Take his lunch money. :c
