Tales from Duty Finder: Some make you laugh, some make you cry. Let's vent.

Did level 70 last night. Usually I do all the roulettes on reset night for a tome boost so I can be lazy later in the week. Anyway, the tank is a War and they start off by sprinting and this is basically how the rest of the duty goes: Wall-to-Wall pulls (with sprint, often going out of my line of sight) + rushing every boss (not even waiting for us, just sprinting towards the boss). I'm healing as WHM and while some of us go down, we don't wipe and I'm keeping going and throwing out dps when I can. However I am tempted to leave because A) I didn't sign up for a speed run and B) while we're all doing ok, we had no warning or anything and this person is just dragging us all along whether we want to or not (can't vote dismiss if you're in battle and he ain't slowing down obviously). Anyway, we finish the Duty (it was Ala Mhigo so... meh) and he leaves via some macro before I can contemplate the comm I had no intention of giving. This kind of inconsiderate crap is why I sometimes hate the Duty Finder sometimes. I enjoy the challenge but I enjoy it when we're all on the same page about it.

24-man Raids ups and downs during the past few days:


- Rabanastre run as SAM: in alliance B with a first-try healer, who was able to pull off an LB3 at Hasmal, we almost got it but Hasmal was better at killing us. though we wiped a few times, it was an OK run

- Rabanastre run as AST: also in alliance B, no wipes, few deaths, but at last boss my co-healer WHM decided to AFK without notice, he died, I tried rezzing but it was not accepted. I wasn't the only one who tried to rez, at least 2 other did. basically solo-healed the rest of the fight, died as well but the alliance in general was good so I got rezzed in no time. he came back just as the fight was over, told us 'repair man came early' or whatever. don't just go AFK people, type at least 'BRB' so people won't need to waste MP on you, don't be rude.
- Weeping City unsync'd run for WT, almost full alliance. solo healed as SCH with Selene for alliance C, very interesting run, I don't remember if there were any deaths, it went by fast. but I do remember having use for Selene's Fey Caress during trianlge phase. only downside is I still didn't get Calistoferi minion--it's been years why won't it drop more? T^T

- Weeping City run as RDM: it seems many were new, alliance A's healers kept dying, their group wipes during every boss. Ozma was of course a nightmare. our alliance, B was doing OK, but at Ozma all the adds/orbs crowded at us so naturally we wipe, take 2 was won with so much death. at Calistoferi, it was so chaotic, she was spun around so much that bijou phase half the raid were being rezzed. one of our healers died at one point, and once he got up, I immediately mana-shifted, but boss spun at our direction that I got distracted, he died again, my mana-shift wasted, I followed. our remaining healer has little MP left so we were not rezzed. the whole instance took an hour maybe more, I was so stressed and so disappointed that I still didn't get the minion :/

Thats funny cause I did rab last night and I was a first try healer and I had to use the healer LB on Hasmal too. We're on different data servers so I know it wasn't me. But wow.. it's like event for event the same lol. People were supportive of me tho. I can't believe I healed Rab.

congrats then! our healer did better than me when I first healed rabby, I remember dying at almost every other mechanic it was so frustrating, thankfully my party was understanding and rezzed me without question

I realize I may be out of the loop on this but when did it become the norm in Castrum Meridianum to just fire off the cannons at Livia as soon as they're loaded instead of waiting until all 4 are loaded and fire at the same time? Each time I run that dungeon in the duty roulette it's just mass chaos in that fight and if I try to explain the strategy I get berated for it or ignored.

If you just shoot and run to the middle afterwords it doesn't really cause a problem at all

He likely pressed U and clicked on leave. It's nigh on instant once it becomes auto-pilot and isn't a macro.

It seems like no one grasps that. I try to put a waymarker in the middle and ask people to run to it if they agro Livia. Some do it and others start running everywhere else. I know it's an easy fight but it feels like it takes longer than it should. Oh well. Still good exp for leveling.

Sounds about normal. Trying to direct your average duty finder party is like trying to herd cats.

So when I say the community expects them to do 60-80% of the DPS... I'm not wrong... even if that number is not actually reachable, the demand is there.

I’d wager to say that the community expects healers to just DPS, and not stand there doing nothing for 60~80% of the fight. You said yourself that 60~80% of a DPS’ DPS is unreachable; real high-end raiders would never expect something impossible out of their teammates.

My personal expectations are: if we’re in Savage content, I expect healers (unless they are new to the content) to have a proficency in balancing both healing and DPSing. Nothing grinds my gears more than a healer with multiple Savage clears that stands around doing nothing for the majority of the fight, putting a strain on their co-healer to pick up the healing slack—usually these healers cannot even keep the party alive (such was an experience I had in a God Kefka PUG a couple weeks ago where the SCH tried to blame the AST who was doing more damage AND more healing than them for a wipe to one of the Forsakens...all because they couldn’t bother to hit Indom).

Yeah, it was pretty fun when I strolled in and saw Cassandra tanking wraiths and was like "oh, that name sounds familiar." and then I noticed you and was like "oh, it's them!".

and thanks. Just gotta stay determined! Ultimate may be long, but it's absolutely amazing when you finally triumph with your heat beating 100 times a second from the last phase.

Yeah, we tend to wander into Eureka from time to time. I’m trying to get the rest of the gear sets from there (eventually). I just happen to drag Cassandra in there to have someone to goof off with, instead of running solo lol.

I am so determined! Hardest part for me seems to be finding groups that have enough free time for it. I went from one doing 5 days a week, 2~3 lockouts to one that can only meet once a week due to scheduling conflicts at the moment. It’s... a drastic change to say the least. Ultimate was something I didn’t get burnt out throwing myself at, so I’m hoping to return to those 5 days a week soonish—especially when Ultima Ultimate comes out.
