Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

And we initially didn't. They didn't end up implementing this system just to force people to keep their sub, but because there was a huge demand on houses that they couldn't cover. Considering houses are limited and the demand is really high, I for one am glad that we have this system now. Otherwise, tons of houses would still be occupied by people who no longer play, unused and wasted.
So, pleease don't try to twist the fact for the sake of convenience.
As for the high res texture pack, I'm definitely up for it @_@!
Great graphics give me life, hahaha.
as an optional download iam really ok with high texture pack, as long its not a "must download" files
FF11 is getting HD makeover right now (although its a fan project), the FF11 mobile however is pretty much the HD remaster of FF11

In WoW everybody has a garrison. I haven't played since November 2016. I recently logged in and my Garrison is still there (without loosing any customization). And we initially didn't. In RIFT, I haven't played since they changed from sub to F2P, I have multiple houses in various locations and even after all these years of not logging in they are still there with my customisation intact.
And the examples I gave above is just from my main toon, I do have alts on WoW which also have their garrisons and are still there (and so many other people do have alts too with Garrisons).
In RIFT I have 4 characters and on 3 of them I have houses on, and those houses are all still there.
So yeah ...

You can get an apartment in FFXIV without the risk of losing it, as only physical houses are demolished. I encourage you to take the apartment route. In WoW everybody has a garrison. Apartments really are a closer comparison to WoW's garrison than the Housing due to Housing's shared outdoor area.
However, even apartments are limited in number to a degree despite being completely instanced like Garrisons (and heck, even like FFXI's mog house that every single character got, admittedly because it was where you had to go to change jobs the majority of the time), so there's still an argument to be made that FFXIV apparently cut a corner and in the same turn painted itself into a corner on this particular feature.
Edit: not to mention being able to log out and back into Garrisons and Mog houses ;-;

That's a good one!...
Now, talking seriously, if that ever happened SE could go down the toilet and straight to hell, I'm not willing to be abused by some crappy looking game, there's only so much I can tolerate!...

I have a house, I have one because I took the day off work and I was among the lucky ones in the queu and was able to clear ultimate shirogane, 3 minutes after I got my house everything was gone in all wards.
I didn't knew you could get an appartment without loosing it, however I do not have acces to certain features like the garden for example.
Anyway that's not my point. My point is why do we loose it if we take a break from the game?
When in those 2 other MMO's I've played WoW and RIFT (in which I haven't logged in for years my houses are still there and intact).
