I don't believe that the GEO ever displayed any healing abilities; his spells were all about protection and defense. And in the final battle, he very literally was the tank for the fight.

If we're going to draw upon the AST quest lore to decide what GEO is going to be, signs point way more firmly to tank.
Unless I just dreamed this, there was a very important point in which they realized that Hydaelyn(the planet) is also a heavenly body, making the two jobs very much parallels to one another. Hence Earthly Star into Stellar Detonation.

One's personal style is also not indicative to the art as a whole. Jobs and skills are more nuanced and flexible in lore than they are as presented to the player; Y'shtola using CU despite being mostly CNJ, Pipin fighting with a DRK swordstyle sans edge effects, every boss using -aga/3 spells despite not being WHM/BLM, etc.

And one could argue that their 60-70 quests alludes to it more, since, usually Time Mages use the Quake spell for standard damage; Quake is earth and Geomancers are about the earth. Originally, they were going to be Chemists, but that changed because of balancing issues. How a Chemist turned into AST is unknown, nor why they didn't just call it a Time Mage from the start. But yeah just like us never getting a Ranger, the odds of us getting a Time Mage are slime, since it would just be copy and paste.
It's similar to time mage, but it has its own nuances and differences that mark it as a separate job; especially when it comes to lore. As wide and varied as the history of FF jobs is, it will probably be just AST taken to a more extreme transformation. Unless they want to invent a weapon or element, which is possible.

Quake is also only used for time mages in Bravely Default from what I can remember. Most of the time it's a BLM spell.

Maybe in time AST will have those nuance differences, since SE seems to be trying to bring the cards and fortune telling into the forefront, which would solidify them as a separate buffer class. But as of right now there are still too many similarities. Though in the end, it doesn't matter much anyway, the next game that features an AST could have them be.... actually given the name I can't think of anything besides support. Time Mage on the other hand could be made more offensive then its previously been.

And to segway from that statement. Quake is in Bravely Default yes, but also in Explorers, and one could wonder if it's in the pseudo squeal too. My guess is it was given to Time Mage to give them more offensive capabilities, similar to giving White Mages the Aero spells; and most recently Water. Besides FFV Time Mages haven't really been a main stay in the main series, though Time Magic is always there. Time Mages are mostly in the Tactics games, where they can focus on support, but in the more recent games, where they take on a role similar to White Mage in XIV they need more "fire power" hence giving them a variety of offensive spells beyond the "random" Meteor and Comet and the percentage based Gravity/Demi.

On a side note, Water, Aero, and Quake/Stone seem to be the random assortment for placement. Will they be Black, Blue, White, Time... Green? lol

I’m all in for Geomancer, I’ve made quite a few little concepts on GEO, and whatever way it’s formed I’ll play it. I’m hoping for Healer, bc I’m eager to dive into a new healer class, since I don’t enjoy any of the current jobs at the moment.

I can picture if GEO is formed more along the lines of a cross between WHM and AST, with Stoneskin making a reappearance as a damage % mitigation spell; and Quake being their version of Holy.

We’ll see! I’m eager to see what jobs are shown this year, and It would be surprising if GEO wasn’t one of them teased for the new expansion.

I have to disagree here. There's extremely little connecting them to time mages. The only spell they share is demi/gravity, and their only time based ability is time dilation. They have time based abilities in lore, but they're not the forefront.

Regardless, I don't think it's fair to say they usually have it when it's only a few iterations out of many.

Alisae wears red pants and a red ribbon in her hair, Alphinaud wears a blue tunic with a blue ribbon in his hair. To this day they both wear the ribbons. I would not be surprised if Alphinaud becomes the main Blue Mage of the scions in 5.0. It makes sense that the twins, being opposite personalities would be twin Blue and Red Mages. They can even assist us in a battle as NPCs and do some Twin Magic shenanigans like Palom/Porom from FF4.
This sounds like a pretty extreme stretch. It's more likely a play on their "red oni, blue oni" dynamic.

It's not that they are Time Mages, it's that thematically they are. The main "gimmick" of AST is their cards, and lorewise they use that for Fortune Telling. The act of fortune telling itself is time based; plus I listed their similar skills.

As for Quake. Saying usually might be a stretch, but it appears to be becoming a thing, similar to RDMs getting rose motifs. But ultimately SE can place any spell anywhere. Like Meteor, when there is a Time Mage they almost always have it. That's why I said the Water, Earth, ans Wind spell lines aren't as consistent as the Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder ones.

What would be more fitting than a red oni/blue oni sibling that are also blue/red mages? I mean, Porom/Palom in FF4 were twins and they were Black and White Mages, why can't Alisae and Alphinaud be Red and Blue Mages respectively?
Also scions either go through a job change when new jobs are released (Thancred, Alisae), or a new NPC with that job joins the scions sometimes (Estinien, Yugiri) or we have an ally of that job (Gosetsu). If the next job released -IS- BLU (still big IF), it would be likely that Alphinaud would either demonstrate BLU-like abilities soon (like Alisae did with her Aether sword), or a new BLU NPC will join the Scions. This is because the Scions sort of represent the prototypical FF cast party made up of different classes.

Actually, I think the jobs they have play off of their natures pretty good right now. Both favor magic, but Alisaie likes to get her hands "dirty" in a sense, so it would make sense that she is a magic user with close combat capabilities; this isn't 14 exclusive either RDM have usually been the best physical damage dealers of the casters. Alphinaud on the other hand prefers to analyze things and formulate plans in advance, sound familiar, not to mention delegating duties to "subordinates"; if that doesn't scream pet user, I don't know ehat does, lol.

It was different with Black and White Mages because their focuses were opposite one another, destructive vs restorative. But, Blue and Red Mages are only opposites in perseption, not actual ability.

Lore reasons mainly. The twins in FFXIV have books because it's a key thing in Coil.

Alisaie Leveilleur however doesn't present any Red Mage things until StormBlood. The final fight in Post-HW is not as RDM like how the player does it. Alisae never summons a pet, the Sword is the only thing she ever summons, and only once.

Likewise Alphinaud Leveilleur summons Moonstone Carbuncle, not the same Carbuncle the player summons as an Arcanist. So unless the developers wish to promote Arcanist as it's own Job to have a third pet job that summons nothing but more powerful cute Carbuncles, I don't think we're going to see Alphinaud become a summoner or scholar since both make Carbuncle disappear.

As for Scion job promotions... pardon my sarcasm, half of them got promoted to "dead". None of them ever got "upgraded" to a job except Alisae, and that's only by virtue of what is labeled a job in the game.

Thancred also change from gladiator to rogue when helping Yugiri in a quest.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

Gladiator to Rogue is not a job upgrade, that's a class change.
